Directory for Catechesis Online Study (DCOS)

Objective:
DCOS is an initiative by the Penang Diocesan Catechetical Commission (PDCC) to help fellow
Catholics who wish to understand better the (new) Directory for Catechesis (DC) published in
2020, through seven (7) monthly online sessions with self or group study in between.

Target audience:
DCOS is open not only for existing catechists (catechism and RCIA) and parishioners in the
Penang Diocese but also for Catholics from other dioceses and from all backgrounds, young
and old, lay faithful/religious/clergy, and especially those discerning to be in the catechetical
ministry.
The first round of DCOS will be conducted fully and only in English.
Evangelizing Catechists (ECs) in the Penang Diocese who are bilingual (fluent in English and
BM/Tamil/Chinese languages and dialects) are highly encouraged to sign up and be trained to
coordinate future DCOS in respective mother tongues, with guidance and support from PDCC.

Methodology:
1. Participants meet online via Zoom on the second Wednesday of each month 8.00pm to
9.30pm MYT (UTC +8) starting in July 2023, with general session flow as follows:
8.00pm Praise and worship, opening prayer
8.05pm Introduction and recap
8.10pm Presentation by the speaker on topics of the day*
9.00pm Participants go into online breakout rooms for discussion and sharing
9.30pm End of the session with closing prayer within respective breakout rooms*
* Speaker may take slightly longer time of up to 20 minutes; breakout rooms will start after
speaker’s presentation. Group discussion may end after 9.30pm but not later than 10.00pm,
with consent from all members within the same group; members who need to leave on time
may do so.

* Personal study may also be face-to-face or online group study with those from the same or nearby
parish(es) or congregation.

✓ Participants will be provided with a PDF version of the Study Edition of the DC. The printed
DC is available for sale at RM24.00 each at the gift shop (Tel: 012-587 4666) in the Minor
Basilica of St Anne; it is also for sale at Majodi Bookshop (Tel: 013-754 8187) at RM22.00
each excluding delivery charge, to be sent by courier. (Information valid as of June 2023.)
✓ Participants who submit all assignments timely with satisfactory points and meet the
attendance requirements will each be presented with a certificate of completion.
✓ Participants who do not submit assignment timely and fully but meet the attendance
requirements will each be presented with a certificate of participation.
✓ No certificate will be presented to participants who do not submit assignment timely and
fully and do not meet the attendance requirements.
✓ Sharing of session recording is at each speaker’s discretion.
