B. CONCURRENT REQUIREMENTS

None

C. REASON

(1) Description of Condition

Frequent repairs of the switching FET on the Power Supply Assembly are required.

(2) Root Cause of Condition

To improve the reliability of the switching FET, FT2, it is replaced with a FET with higher rated
specifications. The drain to source voltage of the FET is changed from 500V to 600V which
changes the de-rating factor from 83% to 69%. The value of R37 is changed from 47 ohms to
82 ohms to maintain the on/off characteristic of the current FET.

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

A. DISASSEMBLY

(1) Warnings and Cautions Regarding Disassembly and Modification Procedure

WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PERFORM MODIFICATION ON ENERGIZED (POWERED

ON) EQUIPMENT. PORTIONS OF THIS UNIT OPERATE ON HIGH-VOLTAGE,
HIGH-FREQUENCY POWER. CERTAIN COMPONENTS MAY RETAIN A
POWERFUL ELECTRICAL CHARGE EVEN AFTER POWER IS TURNED OFF.
THE ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE FROM SUCH COMPONENTS IN THIS UNIT CAN
CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

CAUTION: BEFORE DISASSEMBLING THIS UNIT, DISCONNECT ALL POWER SOURCES.

IN ADDITION, REVIEW AND OBEY ALL APPLICABLE WARNINGS, CAUTIONS
AND SAFETY NOTES IN THE REFERENCED CMM.

CAUTION: THIS UNIT CONTAINS COMPONENTS THAT MAY BE SUBJECT TO DAMAGE BY

ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD).

(2) Partially disassemble the unit to allow access to the Power Supply Assembly.

Perform disassembly procedures as defined in the referenced CMM DISASSEMBLY

Section.

NOTE: Record the position of the removed parts and retain them for re-assembly, unless
instructed otherwise.

(1) Follow the procedures in the referenced CMM CLEANING Section when the unit requires
cleaning.

(2) Follow the procedures in the referenced CMM REPAIR Section when changes to this unit's
electronic circuits are required.

(3) Action 1: Replace FT2 and R37 on the Power Supply Assembly.

See Figure 1 for the following steps:

(a) Remove and discard the existing FT2.

(b) Install the new FT2, P/N B1CERR000048, in the same location as shown in Figure 1
and solder in place.

(c) Remove and discard Resistor R37.

(d) Install the new R37, P/N R4G12SJ820, with the leads formed as shown in Figure 1.
Solder in place.

(4) Action 2: Re-identify the Power Supply Assembly.

Re-identify the Power Supply Assembly as shown in Table 2.B. Use a permanent marker to
add the appropriate "1", "2" or "3" to the end of the P/N on the existing label.

(5) Action 3: Install extension MOD Label, as needed.

If an extension Mod Label is needed, refer to Panasonic SB RDAV3007-23-003, latest issue,

for Mod Label installation details.

NOTE: An extension MOD Label can be installed as needed upon completion of any modification
between MOD 21 and MOD 54.
