Hi! My name is Julia. I live in Moscow and I like creating


different characters and bringing them to life with the
help of my magic crochet hook.

Materials needed:
1. YarnArt Jeans, 55% cotton, 45% acryl, 50g/160m, next
colors:

• for body – white № 01


• for hat – pink № 74
• for nose – beige № 07

2. Gazzal Jeans, 58% cotton, 42% acryl, 50g/170m, berry


color № 1138 for hearts. You can use any yarn of suitable
thickness.
3. Crochet hook 2 mm or 2.25 mm (US: B, UK:14)
3. Fiberfill, thick sewing needle, pins.
4. Piece of cardboard 4 on 4 inch for one gnome’s base.

If you follow this advice your gnome will be 20 cm/8 inch.

Abbreviations:
ch – chain stitch
st - stitch
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
trc – treble crochet
sl st – slip stitch
inc – increase, 2 sc in the next sc
dec – decrease, sc2tog, single crochet 2 stitches
together
dc dec – crochet 2 dc together (dc2tog)
(16) – number of stitches in a round
(inc, sc)*N – repeat N times
BLO – back loop only
CL – cluster
3dcCL - a cluster of 3 double stitches.
A cluster of stitches, made into the same stitch or chain
space that are joined together at the top.

Body.
With white yarn.
Start with making a round base. Work in continuous rounds
without slip stitches.

Stuff the body evenly and firmly with the fiberfill.

Cut off the yarn.
Finish the round in an invisible way: thread the end of
yarn through the needle, skip one stitch and guide the yarn
into the next stitch as shown on the photo.
Insert the needle back in the same stitch where the yarn
end is coming from. Pull the yarn and fasten the obtained
stitch on the wrong side of detail.
This is «closing stitch».

Heart.
With berry yarn.
Make the Magic Ring, then in MR: 3 ch, 2 trc, 4 dc, 1
trc, 4 dc, 2 trc, 3 ch, 1 sl st.
Cut off the yarn, tighten the loop.
Crochet 7 hearts.

Sew 6 hearts to the hat closer or further apart as shown


on the photos. Sew the 7th heart to the top of hat.

Arms.
Start with the beige yarn.
Rnd 1: 8 sc in the MR, go on in
continuous rounds without slip
stitches.
Rnd 2: (inc, 3 sc)*2 (10)
Rnd 3: 10 sc
Rnd 4: 4 sc, 3dcCL, 5 sc (10)
(3dcCL - a cluster of 3 double stitches)

Rnd 5-7: sc in each stitch around 3


rounds.
Connect the white yarn:
Rnd 8: 10 sc
Rnd 9: BLO 10 sc
Rnd 8-16: sc in each stitch around 9
rounds.
Stuff the bottom part of the arm
(hand) with fiberfill. Don’t stuff
the top part of the arm so they don't
stick out.
Fold so that the stitches of the last
round line each other.

Crochet the opposite stitches with 5-6
sc.
Cut off the yarn, leave a long end for
sewing.

Frill sleeve.
With pink yarn:
Rnd 1: 2 dc in each stitch (2 double crochet shell), putting
the hook in free loops of the 8-th round.
Connect the berry yarn:
Rnd 2: sc in each stitch
Repeat the same for the second arm.

Nose.
With beige yarn.
Rnd 1: 7 sc in the MR, go on in
continuous rounds without slip
stitches.
Rnd 2: 7 inc (14)
Rnd 3: (inc, 1 sc)*7 (21)
Rnd 4: (inc, 2 sc)*7 (28)

Add some fiberfill.
Close the top using a needle.

Beard.
With white yarn.
Work in turning rows.
Chain 15, start with the 2nd loop from the
hook.
Rnd 1: 14 sc
Begin to crochet curls.

Work in turning rows with each curls.


Rnd 2-14: ch 21, start with the 2nd loop
from the hook: (sc, inc)*10, 1 sl st
in the stitch of first row. Repeat
14 times.

Assembly and decoration.
Attach the arms, beard and nose to the body with some pins
between 32 and 33 rounds of the body (to the free loops of
32th round).

Put on the hat. The top of arms and nose should be placed
under the hat. Move them the way you like.
Take off the hat, sew the arms, beard and nose to the body.
Put on the hat and attach it with hidden stitches.
Congratulations! Your Valentine Gnome is ready)
