Job Description

Accountant

JOB SUMMARY:
Every employee of IRI is responsible for carrying out the mission of IRI and demonstrating the core
values in their day-to-day operations. The Accounting will be responsible for accounting for IRI’s
office in Ecuador. S/he will assist the program staff to ensure the smooth running of activities
under accounting rules and will report directly to the Resident Program Director (PRD).

Primary Functions & Responsibilities:


• Assists the Resident Program Director (RPD) and field staff in the review, reconciliation, and
evaluation of program activities.
• Ensures compliance of accounting processes with local regulations.
• Prepares and submits all required financial reports to government and local authorities
including, financial control entities, municipality, labor, salary, tax, and other social
contribution payments.
• Maintains personnel records and monitors changes in regulation and law affecting employment.
• Administrates human resources and everything related to the handling of payroll, settlements,
contracts, knowledge of the labor code and tax laws with their reforms, application of social
security charges, taxes, and labor benefits.
• Keeps track of employees’ vacation, sick leave, and compensation time balances.
• Organizes an efficient filing system in the office (including personal files)
• Applies International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and International Auditing
Standards (ISAs)
• Makes payments to suppliers and process approved purchases.
• Maintains program records, including office expenses, reconciliations, payroll, and
disbursements.
• Maintains records of expenses in accounting software.
• Prepares cash disbursement vouchers for the current expenses and ensures the required
supporting documents are attached.
• Demonstrates a thorough understanding of contractual obligations and other pertinent matters as
set forth in the transactions of the Organization.
• Fulfills regular accounting requirements, logistics, and finances at the office and manages the
drafting and editing of important documents, rolling budgets, and monthly financial reports.
• Supervises all types of bank transactions from the office (i.e., cash payments, check payments,
reconciliation, etc.), prepares accounts payable and receivable, and ensures that attachments are
justified.
• Examines withdraws, and records cash payments made by employees at the office and works
with employees to reconcile cash advances in a timely manner according to IRI deadline
policies.
• Ensures that all IRI documents (documents, archives, equipment, furniture, etc.) are well always
protected and the inventory office list is revised monthly and updated daily.
• Accounting supports the relevant areas in planning and preparation of the organization’s
program activities with assist and helping the program team draft the contracts, making sure
that contracts are correctly processed, and reviewing all the documents.
• Ensuring that all contracts are processed for renewal or termination prior to the expiration date
in coordination with local and DC staff.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Audit, or similar careers.


• Certification of Authorized Public Accountant in Ecuador (CPA)
• Ecuadorian nationality or permission to work in Ecuador.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in accounting management, preferred in development, non-profit,
and/or international cooperation projects.
• Effective written and oral communication in English (B1 desirable, at least B2), and Spanish.
• Knowledge of Ecuador’s laws, accounting, and regulations.
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines.
• Proficient in the use of computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, and e-mail);
• Able to manage conflicts.
• Capable of working under pressure.
• Experience working for international donor organizations, nonprofit experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of JAMIS Prime ERP is a plus.
• Non-profit experience (U.S. government/INGO) is a plus.
