Work Done by the Candidate in this Six Months Period

In this time period of, work done by me has been as follows:

Adsorption data of various systems was taken which helped determine the capacity of
particular granular activated carbon to adsorb the lead from aqueous solution after the
modification of its surface by using various chemical compounds. Surface modification of
GACs Filtrasorb F-100, F-300, F-816, F-820 and Norit-830 was done using 3- methoxy
catechol. Then the experimentation was done to get adsorption data of the lead adsorption
capacity of this surface modified granular activated carbons. Then I experimented and modified
the surface of all these carbons using guaiacol and collected adsorption data of the lead
adsorbed by this surface modified granular activated carbon. I also modified the surface of all
the five granular activated carbons mentioned earlier with 1,2- dimethoxy benzene and 2-
ethoxy phenol. Again, adsorption data of these surface modified carbons was obtained by using
UV Visible spectrophotometer. Total 15 systems were run with care being taken of the
precision and clean environment for the chemicals. All the systems were working under same
temperature conditions and at a maintained pH of 5. All the adsorbtion data was stored in a
tabulated form in an MS Excel file. All the experimental work was done under the supervision
of supervisor.

Remark of the supervisor on the work done by the candidate on topic:

Research scholar has done a satisfactory work during these 6 months. He took adsorption data of all the
activated carbons using a spectrophotometer. He modified the surface of granular activated carbons
using guaiacol, 1,2- dimethoxy benzene and 2- ethoxy phenol. Adsorption data of these
modified carbons was also experimented and tabulated. Research scholar did a good job
maintaining all the conditions including constant temperature and pH level. Precision level of
work is satisfactory and adequate.
