5 CERTIFIED GREEN BUILDING MATERIALS THAT ARE AVAILABLE IN THE

PHILIPPINES

1. Solar Panels
- Such as Solaric that offers affordable solar panels. Installing solar
panels contributes to the generation of sustainable energy and
minimizes dependency on fossil fuels.
SPECIFICATION:
- Solar panels use photovoltaic cells made of semiconductor materials,
such as silicon, to convert sunlight into energy without producing any
emissions or pollutants. This technology is known as photovoltaic (PV)
technology.
- Solar panels are classified according to their efficiency, which indicates
how well they convert sunlight into power. Higher efficiency panels may
produce more power per unit area, increasing energy output while
lowering total environmental effect.
- Solar panels are made of materials such as glass, aluminum, and
silicon. At the end of their useful life, these components can be
recycled, reducing waste, and enabling the recovery of valuable
materials.

2. Low VOC Paints

- such as Eco paint and Boysen. This has low amounts of volatile
organic compounds (VOCs) in these paints minimize indoor air
pollution and enhance indoor air quality.
SPECIFICATION:
- Low-VOC paints have less strong or offensive scents than high-VOC
paints. This is because reduced VOC levels contribute less to the
unique paint odor.
- Low-VOC paints often use water-based or waterborne compositions.
Instead of petroleum-based solvents with high VOC concentration, they
primarily use water as the solvent. Water-based paints have several
advantages over solvent-based paints, including a lower odor, easier
cleaning, and less environmental impact.
3. Porous Paving
- Grass pavers is a Porous driveway, walkway, or parking lot materials
allow rainfall to infiltrate the surface, lowering stormwater runoff and
enhancing groundwater recharge.
SPECIFICATION:
- Porous pavers can aid in erosion prevention by stabilizing soil and
reducing sediment movement. They offer a firm surface while enabling
water to permeate, lowering the risk of soil erosion and silt transfer into
streams.
- Porous pavers reduce urban heat island effect by absorbing less heat
than concrete or asphalt, creating cooler microclimates in cities.

4. Rockwool Insulation
- It is a non-combustible thermal insulation created from genuine rocks
and minerals that provides superior thermal insulation, soundproofing,
and fire protection.
SPECIFICATION:
- Rockwool insulation is highly effective in reducing the transfer of heat
through building structures. This helps maintain comfortable indoor
temperatures, while also reducing energy consumption for heating and
cooling
- Rockwool insulation is often made from natural or recycled resources
like basalt rock or blast furnace slag. The production process uses
energy-efficient techniques that are environmentally friendly.
- Rockwool insulation is recyclable at the end of its life cycle.

5. Green Concrete
- Concrete with a high percentage of recycled materials, supplementary
cementitious materials (e.g., fly ash or slag), or lower cement content
can reduce carbon emissions associated with its production.
SPECIFICATION:
- Green concrete incorporates measures to minimize carbon emissions
associated with its production.
- Green concrete may use recycled resources as partial substitutes for
natural aggregates, such as crushed concrete or recycled aggregates.
- Green concrete can be made with ingredients or technology that
improve thermal insulation, lowering energy usage for heating and
cooling buildings.
2 CERTIFIED GREEN BUILDING TECHNOLOGIES
1. Efficient Lighting Systems
- Energy-efficient lighting technologies, such as Light Emitting Diodes
(LEDs), are commonly employed to reduce power use. LED lighting
uses less energy, lasts longer, and generates less heat than
conventional lighting.
SPECIFICATION:
- Compared to older lighting technologies like incandescent or
fluorescent bulbs, efficient lighting solutions such as Light Emitting
Diodes (LEDs) use significantly less energy. LEDs are highly efficient
and convert more electrical energy into visible light, resulting in less
energy being wasted as heat.
- are well-suited for integration with renewable energy sources, such as
solar panels.

2. Building Automation Systems (BAS)

- connect multiple building systems, such as lighting, HVAC, and
security, to increase operational efficiency and occupant comfort.
These systems enable centralized building operation control,
scheduling, and optimization.
SPECIFICATION:
- Building Automation Systems improve occupant comfort by maintaining
appropriate environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity,
and indoor air quality. This improves building inhabitants' productivity,
health, and enjoyment.
