 FIRE RATED DUCT COATING
WINDUCT® - FIRE RATED DUCTWORK SPECIFICATION

The Smoke extract ductwork should be constructed in accordance with the

WinDuct® specification for fire resistant ductwork.

All fire rated ductwork system should be tested to BS 476 Part 24 for external
fire exposure (Duct A) and internal fire exposure (Duct B) for 120 minutes
stability, integrity, and insulation respectively. Fire test should be conducted
as per ISO standard fire curve (ISO 834).

The duct manufactured shall be single skin in construction having total

thickness not more than 2mm thick including WinCoat™ intumescent
coating as tested.

All ductworks should be constructed in accordance with SMACNA / DW144

duct construction standards from galvanized sheet metal coated with a layer
of WinCoat™ intumescent coating of not less than 600 microns.

Duct also to be tested / assessed to BS 476 Part 24 for all sizes up to 10

meters x 3 meters cross-sectional area.

The ductwork shall be fabricated / constructed based on SMACNA / DW144

duct construction standards.

Provide integral fire resisting supports for fire rated ductworks; support
system should be located at a maximum of 1500mm centers.

Hanger and bearers shall be designed to limit stress 10N/mm2 for 120
minutes fire rating.

Fire rated ductwork to be passed impact test BS 5669 and appendix A of BS

5588 Part 5.

Fire rated ductwork must be tested to BS 476 Part 4 for non-combustibility

and Class O material to BS 476 Part 6 & 7.

Cleaner: Dry cloth / Soap water for grease

Primer: Direct application on cleaned Duct surface

Gaskets & Sealants: Any airtight gaskets can be used; WinCoat™ paint can
be used in place of fire sealant – as tested and approved by IFC.

Insulation: 100mm thick rockwool with 120Kg density for 120 minutes
insulation. (Optional based on project requirement)
Installation / Workmanship

The ductwork should be fabricated / constructed based on SMACNA / DW144

duct construction standard (static of 250 pa – 1000 pa). Any transformation
or reducer shall use the thickness of the larger dimension of the duct section.
If the ductworks are accessible after the installation, the ductwork shall be
immediately applied with WinCoat™ intumescent fire rated coating.

All surface of the fabricated ductwork shall be clean from all stain, oil and
glue etc before applying the WinCoat™ intumescent paint.

Application of WinCoat™ shall be carried out by hand brush, roller or spray.

Quality Check (QAQC)

All finished ductworks shall be checked visually to ensure that they are fully
completed together with all TDC joint and clip in place and WinCoat™
intumescent paint coated.

All coating shall be verified and checked by the system manufacturer /

supplier representative with “Elcometer – Digital Gauge” to ensure the 600
microns dry film thickness is achieved for 120 minutes fire protection. Any
damage or insufficient thickness are then re-applied to the surface to achieve
the require thickness. All repairing shall be done on dry surface.

Adequate storage area to be provided for the coating to maintain free of

damage and in conditions suitable as required and deliver to site until
components can be immediately unloaded into adequate storage or site with
proper protection.
