Gospel Living
Even if you’re not familiar with the term, you’re probably familiar with the concept of Gospel giving. The idea is that
we should give to the Lord in response to what He has given to us. Therefore, since God gave His one and only Son
on our behalf, we should be sacrificial in our giving back to Him. After all, where our treasure is, there our heart will
be also (Matt. 6:21).
Though we may struggle to practice Gospel giving, most Christians understand the principle behind it. However,
for this article, I do not want to focus on Gospel giving but on Gospel living. Gospel living is also rooted in the
sacrifice of Jesus Christ, but it is not nearly as familiar of a concept. Instead of, "what are we willing to give to
God?" the question becomes, "how are we willing to live for God?"
Gospel living means framing every aspect of your life in light of what God has done. This means what I do, how I
act, and where I live are all Gospel-driven. Do I do what I do because of the leading of God, or do I do it just to get
a paycheck? Am I kind to others because I want them to like me, or is it because I have experienced the
lovingkindness of God? Did I choose this neighborhood, this city/state because God called me here, or was it
simply a matter of convenience, self-satisfaction, and safety?
I do not want to give the impression that living this way is easy; however, perhaps our answers to these questions
reveal some non-negotiables in our hearts that we have been keeping from God. Gospel living means letting go of
things because we trust fully in Him. When we went to Utah a couple of weeks ago, I met several families that
uprooted their lives and moved across the country to join what God is doing at Mosaic Provo. Mind you, these
weren’t pastors. They were laypeople who were willing to put their "yes" on the table. What might God do if
members of Eastmont were willing to do the same? I’m reminded of the words of J.D. Greear whose church has
been practicing this for years: "we reap only as we send out; living comes by dying; gaining comes by losing."
OUR CHURCH FAMILY Hello Eastmont Family!
Finally, you can be in prayer for our family as we travel back to the States later this
summer to renew our visas. We will be in Montgomery for a couple of weeks and
BUILDING LOCK UP plan to gather with you all in person to worship on August 20th and 27th.
July 23 As always, we are grateful for your prayers and support for our work. We know
Allen Deal & Eric Hill that we do not labor alone - only by the power of the Spirit and with the prayers of
His saints.
July 16
We pray that the Eastmont family would continue in love, faith, and good works.
Dallas Vick & Steve Ragsdale We are looking forward to seeing you soon!
