ARC424s - Introduction to Modern Art Movements

Assignment (Group Work) Maximum Marks: 30 Marks

The lectures demonstrated the different trends, elements and principles of contemporary modern
art: (Appropriation – Juxtaposition – Recontextualization – layering – Gazing - Time –
Performance – Hybridity – Perspective – Destruction – text).
Requirements:
Referring to the new contemporary art principles, and taking in consideration the basic
characteristics of the different contemporary modern art trends and approaches, using you are
required as a Group Work, containing the following on A2 paper size:
i. Generate a Conceptual idea and try to apply one of the contemporary modern art elements,
principles and trends. You may illustrate your idea using sketches, images, texts or any needed
illustrated figures to clarify your designed concept.

ii. You may use (it is optional not mandatory) your previous analysis for the 2D artwork in the
midterm exam assignment, and try to apply your generated concept; to convert the abstract 2D
or 3D shapes and basic traditional visual elements into a contemporary art work; respecting all
the new contemporary visual fundamental principles and trends.
iii. Your Outcome product is required to be on both 2D art work Composition and a 3D outcome
(Sculpture, installation,..)
iv. Try to use the same concept as a prompt for one of the AI platforms to generate the similar 2D
artwork.
v. Compare your artwork to the product generated by the AI. Highlight your statement as a group
work as a reflection of your first definition of “What is Art ?”

a- Knowledge and understanding of the basic characteristics of the Contemporary Art trends
b- An application of using new contemporary visual design elements and principles in designing a 3D
modern art work generated from another Contemporary modern art work.
c- Intellectual, Professional and practical skills
d- General and transferable skills
