Term III SA1 Template:

absorbency: 100gms of cotton

Topic (pairing)

If cotton absorbency is dependent on what kind of brand it is.

Problem

Hypothesis If the usefulness of the cotton is limited to its absorbency then brand X
would be the better choice.
Variables

Independent Dependent Controlled

Variable Variable Variables

The brand of The most

cotton absorbent brand
Amount of water, temperature, environment of where
of cotton.
it’s being held, speed of when you’re pouring the water
in the container, type of container, amount of cotton
used from each brand. Type of water used,
Weight/amount of the cotton used.

How is this So first you are going to put 5g of water into a cup of your choice. Then, put
experiment 100g of cotton in. Keep adding 1g of water if the cotton can still absorb the
conducted? water. When it cannot absorb the water you added anymore, the amount of
water it absorbed before it couldn’t will be the amount of water it can
absorb. Keep doing this until you find the brand that has the best
absorbency result.

Why is this Cotton has a multitude of uses and knowing which absorbent cotton brand
experiment would be more beneficial to both us consumers, and especially those in the
important? medical field. Cotton can be used for cleaning out wounds with hydrogen
peroxide or iodine, applying antiseptics or topical ointments, cleaning minor
cuts and skin irritations, and stopping blood after an injection is given or
blood withdrawn. Cotton can also be used also for skincare. As a Grade 7
student going through puberty, I can assure you that acne is the source of
insecurity for many people including hormonal teenagers. Knowing which
brand would have the most absorbent cotton relieves us because we know
that when we clean our faces with this certain trusted cotton brand, we
know it’s absorbing all the dirt and impurities in our faces.
