Dear All,
It is a matter of immense pleasure and delight that the Pain Medicine Unit, Department of
Anaesthesiology & Critical Care, King George's Medical University, Lucknow is organizing
the 6th National and 1st International Conference of Indian Society of Pain Clinicians from
3rd-5th November 2023.
This three-day long conference is providing the platform for pain clinicians from all over the
country and different parts of the world to unite, to share, to explore and establish new horizons
in the field of pain medicine.
This academic feast will include lectures, panel discussions, questions answers sessions, workshops,
free paper and poster presentations, debate and quiz. It's our honour to welcome all delegates,
faculty and colleagues. With everyone's support, encouragement and involvement this
conference will set a benchmark and will be a remarkable experience for all of us. Lucknow, the
capital of Uttar Pradesh offers a rich cultural heritage spanning Lucknow gharana of Kathak,
beautiful sprawling gardens, polite mannerisms, fine awadhi cuisines like Tunday kebabs, music,
and poetry (Shayari), mesmerizing architecture and hospitality like home. Fondly known as the
‘City of Nawabs’ or the ‘City of Tehzeeb’, it has always been a city filled with varied cultures.
Lucknow is famed “Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb” – that culture born of the blending of the traditions
of different communities. Lucknow is extremely popular for Chikankari and Lakhnavi Zardozi:
two kinds of handcrafted stylish and delicate Indian embroideries.
The organizing committee will leave no stone unturned to make your stay in Lucknow a memorable
and remarkable one. We look forward to your presence in this academic extravaganza. It will be
an exciting learning session for all.

 About KGMU

The foundation stone of this grand medical institution was laid by the Royal
Highness, the Prince of Wales, in 1906, during his second visit to India for his
Coronation Durbar as King Emperor.

King gave his consent to establish the institution and to designate it by his name.
Since then, the institution has been dedicated to excellent medical education,
unparalleled medical ethics, groundbreaking research, and exceptional patient
care.

On 16th September 2002 an Act was passed by the Government of Uttar Pradesh
resulting in a major milestone in change in the history of the institution in converting
and upgrading it as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University.

Later in October 2003 the name of the medical university was reverted from
C.S.M. Medical University to K.G. Medical University. K.G. Medical University has
contributed immensely in the education and training of thousands of graduate and
post-graduates who have brought glory and laurels to their Alma mater by
academic and professional excellence.

 About Pain Medicine Unit

Department of Anaesthesiology, Critical care and Pain medicine

In the year 1961, the first separate Department of Anaesthesiology was established in the state of Uttar Pradesh in
KGMU under the headship of Prof. RP Badola. Under the leadership of Prof. G.P. Singh, at present the department of
Anaesthesiology has a 29 member strong Faculty and provides routine and emergency anaesthesia services to the
entire Hospital (GM & Associated Hospitals) including super specialities Cardiovascular Surgery, Neurosurgery,
Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Gastro-surgery, Orthopedics, Radiotherapy, Psychiatry, Plastic Surgery, Oral &
Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Urology and Oncology.- The department has a dedicated Pain Medicine
Unit with a fully functional well equipped OT, completely operational 10 bedded pain ward and successfully
running Pain Clinic OPD four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday).

In 2019, Unit has started PDCC course in Pain management currently having 2 candidates. It is a recognized centre
for the Certificate Course in Essentials of Palliative Care (CCEPC) by Indian Association of Palliative Care (IAPC).

It has been organising regular workshops and teaching courses for the training of nursing and paramedical students
at skill training center.

The Unit has sent a proposal for executing DM (Pain Medicine) under them. Pain Unit has been working ceaselessly in
the field of cancer pain, chronic pain and post operative acute pain services.

The Unit started free Morphine distribution in Pain Clinic OPD since June 2021 with the motto of keeping the patients
pain free. The pain OT is well resourced for all the basic and advanced interventions including fluoroscopic, USG
guided, conventional and cooled radio frequency ablation, ozone therapy, endoscopic procedures, platelet rich
plasma injections etc.

The unit has been hosting and organising many workshops and CME on cancer and chronic pain. With the golden
opportunity to host the ISPCCON 2023 the unit and the department will set the flag high to make this event a huge
success.
