It has been a dream of mine to be a lawyer.

As a child, I knew I was different from all

the other kids my age. While they were busy running and playing under the sun, I was
inside our home reading the news paper my dad bought. I was more interested in
reading books and watching the news. Back then, my father would always call me to
watch law student debates from universities like Ateneo, UP, Lasalle, and others on
ANC (the ABS-CBN News Channel), which gave me the idea of becoming a lawyer
without really understanding what it takes to be one.

However, being in school made me understand why I wanted to be one. It opened my

eyes to multiple injustices that are happening not only in school but also in our
society. Watching the news and experiencing how public officials treat us lit the fire
in me to finally pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer. which for a while I thought I
didn’t want because I blamed the people for their poor choices, so I thought we must
accept and suffer. But this thinking is really wrong; I realize many Filipinos must
have thought like me. To accept and suffer just because we made the wrong decision
in life. I realized that there are people who make decisions and choices in life based
on survival, and some don’t even have a choice, not even a voice.

Having the opportunity to proceed and study in law school, I want to take up law at
Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan because, through the years, they have proven
they are one of the top-performing law schools here in Mindanao. Also, it is important
for me that the institution that I will be enrolling in upholds the values that I have.
Which is to constantly seek the truth, to give importance to knowledge and being able
to teach and communicate it well to others, and to honing its people to be people for
others and teach them to act rightly and justly.
