The change in geopolitics, associated with the prospect of a local conflict between Russia and Ukraine
escalating into a full-scale world war, has significantly increased the risk of a global economic recession,
accompanied by rising prices for consumer and food products, due to a likely break in the global supply
chain and a slowdown in industrial production.
The natural response of central banks in the USA, EU, Great Britain, Australia and Japan, which account
for 60% of the world economy, was to raise interest rates and to forecast a decline in GDP growth over the
next two years.
On 21 September in particular the Fed published a forecast which indicates that the US economy will
plunge into recession by mid-2024, slowing growth to 0.2%, resuming growth at the earliest at the end of
2024.

money, which will be reduced against a background of bond sales by central banks as well as rising
interest rates that make the US dollar a high-yield asset with a growing shortage of supply.
