 - PURPOSE
-The purpose of this Work Method Statement for Floor and Wall Tiling Works is to
outline and
-describe in detail the procedure such as setting and lay-out plan on actual location, pre-
laying of
-tiles, mixing of tile grout, final laying of tiles and all other related activity.

 - SCOPE

The scope of this Method Statement covers;


– Floor and wall ceramic tiles for Toilets & kitchen
– Floor tiles for Rooms

 - RESPONSIBILITY

A full and detailed description of roles and responsibilities of all staff is included within
the project quality plan . for the works as covered this method statement , the following
personnel have specific duties

Technical Officer Engineer: Specific responsibilities include:


- Responsible for ensuring that the various submitting are timely undertaken (materials,
method statements, workshop drawings, subcontractor’s issues, technical issues).
- Responsible for quotations as required (materials, subcontractors).

- Responsible for ensuring RFI’s are timely undertaken on behalf of contractor.


- Responsible for the distribution of documents within contractor site personnel.

Site Engineer(s). Specific responsibilities include:


- Ensuring that the project is managed in a safe manner and meets the requirements
Of the project documentation
- Ensuring that subcontractors and suppliers achieve the on-site required
Standards

- Ensuring the Client is satisfied with our performance .

- Ensuring performance measurable are delivered.

- Shall refer to the QA/QC Department and the HSE Department for advice and
guidance when required.
- Shall ensure that operatives comply with the relevant method statements, Toolbox
Talks and general site briefings.

HSE Site Representative(s). Specific responsibilities include:


- Assisting in the production of any health, safety, and environmental documents.
- Monitoring the implementation of health, safety, and environmental
Requirement
- Undertaking audits and ensuring that corrective and preventive actions are
- Taken where required Liaison with the senior site staff on health, safety, and
Environmental related matters

QA/QC Site Representative(s). Specific responsibilities include:


- Carrying out phased inspections as required.
- Ensuring that completed works are offered for inspection/approval to external

companies within specific dates/programmers.


- Preparation of the ITP.
- Ensuring that all required tests are performed and follow appropriate
specifications etc.
- Reviewing and ensuring that all shop drawings and material submitting are
presented to the appropriate bodies with adequate supporting information.
-Ensuring that materials are inspected when delivered to ensure they comply with the
various specifications

-Maintaining a record of all QA/QC activities on site.


- Controlling and ensuring all measuring and test equipment on site is properly calibrated.
-Controlling all non-conforming products or workmanship and implementing the required
preventive actions.
-Ensuring that corrective and preventive actions are taken when required.

-Ensuring that the required testing is undertaken by
approved independent laboratories, and that all test results are reviewed.

-Undertake audits to ensure conformance to agreed Standards, Legislation, and project


specific requirements.
-Ensuring that staffs are aware of their responsibilities in respect of quality issues.

-Assisting and reporting to the QA/QC Manager as required.

Supervisor(s). Specific responsibilities include:


-To ensure that all operatives and appropriate subcontractors have been briefed as to the
content of the method statement and the works.

-To adequately control the works as required.

-To ensure the works are undertaken in a safe manner.


- To ensure all operatives are adequately training in their respective works.

-Reporting any UN-safe practices on site to the site team.

Subcontractors. Specific responsibilities include:


-To undertake their works as specified.

-To work in a safe manner.


-To ensure all operatives are adequately training in their respective works.

 - MANPOWER
The Civil Supervisor shall control the overall activities at site and he will be directly
reporting to the Site Superintendent. The basic manpower under him shall consist
but not limited to the following:
 Lead Pre-Commissioning Engineer
 Testing Engineer
 Civil Lead Man
 Senior Technicians
 Technician
 Vendor Represented (if need)
 QC Engineer / Inspector
 Safety Engineer
 Company Representative

 - TOOLS & EQUIPMENT


These listed materials and tools/equipment’s that are required for this
activity will defer depending on the condition of the area encountered.
 
Tools/Equipment’s:

1-Leveling instruments
2-measuring tape
3-sponge
4-tile cutter
5-steel trowel
6-Notched trowel
7-Aluminum straight edge
8-shovel
9-Hand tools
10-Right angle

 - Materials

 Approved Ceramic tiles


 Approved Glue.
 Approved Grout .
 Approved insulation materials for walls

 - METHODS / PROCEDURES

 Floor tiles:-

1-Ceramic and porcelain tiles type & color, mortar mix, glue, grout, shop
drawing

2-set dry mortar to accept tiles is applied, no voids under the tiles occur.
Grind off high spots and fill-in low spots as necessary to ensure no voids
occur.

3-Preparation of Floors for Wet Areas: Apply tile adhesive to the


protection screed floor in the required thickness.

4-Tiles shall be placed according to level shown in drawing and shall be


placed firmly with the help of rubber mallet.
 
5-As per survey reference level point, tiles shall be laid level or enough
slope to drain (1% slope) in wet areas as required.

6-Care shall be taken in wet areas to avoid/prevent low spot and pooling
of water.

7-The tiles shall be neatly cut, grind rough on exposed edges around
pipes & other obstructions.

8-Make provision of floor drains as per approved shop drawings.

9-When the installation has hardened sufficiently a thick grout of cement


mixed with a minimum amount of water/approved grout shall be
prepared and brushed over the floor until all the joints are thoroughly
filled.

10-Application shall be as per manufacturer’s recommendation.

11-Surplus grout material shall be removed with a dry cloth.

12-Do not saw-cut joints after installing tiles.

13-The completed floor tile should be avoided from traffic for at least 24
hours. 
14- The tiles work should be arranging as the approved shop drawing

14-The joint width shall not be more than 3mm


& joints to be true to the line, continuous  and without steps as per
approved shop drawings. 

15 – Tiles corner in skirting shall be cut by 45

 Wall tiles:-

1-before install tile wall should make waterproof for wall as approved .

2-To ensure rows of tiles are truly horizontal, a level line shall be
established to position the starting course.

3-Tiles of specified and approved sizes shall be fixed to wall surfaces with
approved adhesive. 

4-Mixing of adhesive shall be strictly followed in accordance with


manufacture's recommendations.

5-Adhesive shall be used as per manufacture recommendations.

6-Apply floated of adhesive to dry background and comb the surface with
the recommended solid bed trowel.

7-Fill any keys and apply thin even coat of adhesive over the entire back of
each tile.

8-Press tiles onto bedding with twisting/sliding action to give finished bed
thickness recommended by the manufacture.

9-Tamp the tile with rubber mallet to obtain required adhesion and level.
Tiles shall be laid with required spacers to align horizontal and vertical
joints.

10-Lay tiles to pattern in accordance with shop drawings.


Excessive mix of adhesive shall be removed with a damp cloth before the
materials has set.

11-The vertical joints shall be maintained plumb for the entire true level and
plane by uniformly applied pressure.

12-joints in wall tiles and fittings, after edges of tiles have been thoroughly
cleaned it shall be grouted neatly with approved grout.

13-Grout shall be applied to the spaces between the


tiles using sponge or a small piece of the soft cloth.

14- The tiles work should be arranging as the approved shop drawing

 - SAFETY PRECAUTION

-Safety requirements will be addressed in accordance with the project General

safety plan .

-Tools and equipment will be inspected periodic
