Introduction
According to (Zuo & Zhao, 2014), the positive impact of building is the provision of structures and facilities meets human needs, creation of employment opportunities
and also support to the national economy. However, buildings and construction operations can have negative effects, which are also widely acknowledged. These
include the construction-related noise, dust, gridlock, water pollution, and trash disposal. Buildings emit greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) that contribute to global
warming in addition to energy usage. In 2035, the global carbon emissions from buildings will total 42.4 billion tonnes.
Therefore, a cutting-edge method of constructing known as sustainable or green focuses on reducing the negative effects on the environment while increasing

productivity and occupant comfort. It entails reducing energy consumption by utilising renewable energy sources, energy-efficient materials, and technology. Another
crucial element is resource conservation, which involves recycling resources and reducing waste. Prioritising occupant health and indoor environmental quality is
another aspect of sustainable construction. We may develop structures that satisfy current demands while ensuring a healthier and more sustainable future for future
generations by implementing sustainable building practises.

Project Background

Bangunan Kuarters Bomba Bintulu, Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM) Negeri Sarawak is a nine-story building that comprises the ground level and
elevator motor room floor. Arkitek Nuritna Matnor was in charge of the architectural design, Konsortium Bistari CS Sdn Bhd was in charge of the civil engineering, Kraft
Engineering Consultants Sdn Bhd was in charge of the mechanical engineering, and Kumpulan Ukor Bahan Sarawak was in charge of the quantity surveying.
It is crucial to remember that the structure does not adhere to sustainability and green building principles. It lacks energy-saving architectural elements including
insulation, passive solar techniques, and effective lighting systems. As a result, there is an increase in energy use and a rise in carbon emissions.
It is deficient in crucial sustainable and green building components. Its incompatibility with sustainable development principles and negative environmental impact are
worsened by the lack of energy-efficient design, renewable energy use, resource conservation measures, waste reduction strategies, improvements to indoor
environmental quality, water-saving fixtures, and environmental mitigation initiatives.

Owner & Occupant of the Building

OWNER : Kementerian Kesejahteraan Bandar, Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan
Their roles is to realizing the nation's development agenda through programs of public housing,
urban services, and infrastructure to enhance the quality of life and welfare of the people.
Their outcomes are to create a sustainable national physical development and the improvement
of prosperous urban environments.

OCCUPANTS
1. Kuarters
Government authorities or civil servants may be given the quarters if they are assigned to
work in the region, especially the firefighters.
Other public servants that need accommodation close to their workplace include healthcare
professionals, and staff members of governmental organisations.

2. Fire Station
Professional firefighters are the primary inhabitants of a fire station and are in charge of
responding to fire emergencies, carrying out fire prevention operations, and performing
rescue services.
In addition to firefighters, fire stations may also include administrative staff, mechanics who
maintain the fire trucks and other equipment, and other employees who help with day-to-day
operations.

Purpose & Component of

Building
PURPOSES
Emergency Response: The main function of a fire station is to offer a quick emergency
response to accidents, spills of dangerous materials, fires, and other disasters.
Fire Prevention: Through public education, fire inspections, and the enforcement of fire safety
standards and regulations, fire stations also play a critical role in fire prevention.

COMPONENTS OF THE BUILDING

Fire apparatus bays : They are sizable, garage-like areas where vehicles, fire apparatus, and
firefighting supplies are kept. They frequently feature many bays to accommodate various fire
apparatus types.
Living quarters: To provide housing for the on-duty firemen, fire stations provide living
quarters. These might contain sections for sleeping, eating, and using the lavatory, as well as
facilities for recreation.
Central communication and control centre : where dispatchers organise the deployment of
firefighting resources and receive emergency calls.
Rooms for equipment and maintenance: These spaces are used to store and maintain firefighting
supplies such hoses, breathing equipment, tools, and protective clothing.
