Objectives of
Lesson  For buddies to learn how a basketball bounces and what
force applied to it results in force/bounce of the ball
 Practise correct technique for dribbling/learn the basics of
dribbling a basketball
 Buddies to have fun and enjoy the games and activities!!
 Buddies to use teamwork to play games and utilise each
other

What you Need/


Equipment/Space 3 basket balls – size 3 for age requirements
8 cones
Wall of the gym
Approximately 10m x 10m area
Teaching Points
Emphasized Activity 1
 Bouncing a ball against the wall to understand force and
action of the basketball

KPA’s
Activity 1  Feet shoulder width apart
(include diagram)  knees slightly bent
 feet facing forward to where the ball will be bounced
 arms to the “sky” in the preparing stage
 arms facing the ground when bouncing the ball

 Buddies will be shown how to bounce a ball with two hands


understanding how high a ball bounces with different power
behind it.

 Buddies will do small soft


smashes on the ground
against the wall

 Buddies will then


complete medium
strength, following
hardest smash possible

Activity 2
Activity 2  Learning to dribble on the spot (preferred hand)
(include diagram)
KPA’s
 Fingers to guide the ball not slapping with hands
 can watch the ball as only a bigger
 soft pushes of the ball
 keeping ball at waist height

 Demonstration of on the spot dribbling the ball will take


place

 learners will mimic teacher


using basic KPA’s as only
beginner level

 Teacher can use a hula hoop


to hold at waist height for
learners to practise bounce
height

Activity 3
 Dribbling whilst on the move

KPA’s
 Slow balanced steps whilst moving
 Can keep eyes on the ball to help hand placement
 Knees bent in motion with the ball
 Using soft pushes of the balls not slaps

 Cones will be laid out to dribble back and forth

 If buddies get the hang of moving and dribbling a zig zag


course will be set up to dribble around
