Assembly of the CEM Vessel Cleaning System

Assembly of the legs

1. Turn over the heating plate so that the bottom is facing up. Assemble the legs to the
heating plate as shown in the pictures below.
2. Turn over the heating plate with the legs attached. Do not lean on the legs while
turning the Vessel Cleaning System upright.

Assembly of the cavity and parts

1. Install the vessel rods into the holes of the vessel plate – see picture below as an example of the rod
arrangement.

2. Insert the vessel plate with the vessel rods inside the cavity.
3. Place vessel cleaner cavity on the heating plate. The hole on the side (near the bottom) of the vessel
cleaner cavity MUST be on the same side as the shortest legs. This will allow all liquid to drain out of
the vessel cleaner cavity.
4. Install the drain tube with stopcock into the hole on the side (near the bottom) of the vessel cleaner
cavity.
5. Close the stop cock.
6. Thread the large screw through the underside of the cavity lid.
7. Install the funnel support onto the Teflon screw. Do not over tighten.
8. Install the funnel with plug into the funnel support.
9. Line-up the holes of the vessel cavity and cavity extension and install the 4 small screws.
10. Connect the cord from the heating plate to the controller. Tighten the circular ring clockwise.
11. Plug the controller cord into an outlet as specified previously in this document.
12. The CEM Vessel Cleaning System is assembled – see picture below.

13. Follow the instructions for Initial Cleaning.

Cleaning Procedure

Note: For the first cleaning, run a cleaning cycle without any vessels.

1. Close stopcock in front drain tube.

2. Remove plug form the funnel.
3. Carefully pour 500 mL of acid that will be used to clean the vessels into the funnel.
4. Replace plug in the funnel.
5. ALTERNATIVE METHOD FOR POURING ACID: If you are using the CEM Vessel Cleaning System with
cavity extension, there is one other option for pouring acid into the cavity.
a. Remove the extension and the lid and pour the acid directly into the cavity. Replace the
extension and lid.
6. Turn on the power to the controller by flipping the main switch on the front of the controller to the
ON position.
7. Set the temperature. It is recommended to set the temperature to the boiling point of the acid. As
heating temperature of approximately 120°C to 130°C of the heating block corresponds to a solution
temperature of approximately 75°C to 85°C.
8. Leave the Vessel Cleaning System on for 3 – 4 hours.
9. Turn off the power to the controller.
10. Allow to cool to room temperature.
11. Remove the plug from the funnel.
12. Drain acid from Vessel Cleaning System by opening the stopcock on the front of the System and
collecting the acid in an appropriate container. This acid should not be reused again.
13. Remove the plug in the funnel.
14. Carefully pour 500 mL of water into the funnel.
15. Replace the plug in the funnel.
16. ALTERNATIVE METHOD FOR POURING WATER: If you are using the CEM Vessel Cleaning System with
cavity extension, there is one other option for pouring acid into the cavity.
17. Set the temperature to 100°C.
18. Leave the Vessel Cleaning System for 1 hour.
19. Turn off the power to the controller.
20. Allow to cool to room temperature.
21. Remove plug from the funnel.
22. Drain water from Vessel Cleaning System by opening the stopcock on the front of the System and
collecting the water in an appropriate container. This water should not be reused again.
