INTRO

Books are keys to wisdom’s treasure

Books are gates to lands of pleasure

Books are paths that upward lead

Books are friends, come let us read.

A very good day to everyone. My name is Latchena, I’m 16 years old and I’m from 4 Berlian. I love
reading books during my free time. Today, I’ll be reviewing my favourite book, A Dog’s Purpose. This
wonderful book was written by W. Bruce Cameron, who is one of my all-time favourite authors. This
book was published by A Tom Doherty Associates Book in 2010. It costs around RM 40. This book
consists of 323 pages. Are you thinking that this is just a random story of a dog who is loyal to his
owner and eventually dies? The answer is no. In fact, this book is very fascinating and it is not at all
boring.

A Dog’s Purpose is told from the dog’s perspective which can be tricky but I think W. Bruce Cameron
pulled it off. I enjoyed the refreshing and unique view of the world that the dog provided. It’s the
same charming innocence that a child’s view of the world will give you. I tend to stay away from dog
books because I know how it’s going to end. But A Dog’s Purpose was different. I found the ending
uplifting and satisfying.

SYNOPSIS

"A Dog's Purpose" is the story of a dog who goes through four reincarnations as different dogs. He is
seeking a purpose in life in his different reincarnations. In the beginning, four puppies are born to a
feral dog who keeps them hidden in a den. The mother dog trains them to fear humans. One day,
they are all caught and put in a yard with many other dogs. A kind woman with long, white hair
names the hero, Toby. He finally has to be put down because he is wounded in a fight.

In the second reincarnation, the hero is a Golden Retriever named Bailey. He loves Ethan, the boy he
lives with, deeply. In the summer Ethan visits his grandparents in the country. There is a girl named
Hannah who lives down the road and Ethan falls in love with her. There is a bad boy in the
neighbourhood named Todd whom Bailey discovers setting fire to Ethan's house. When Ethan goes
away to college, Hannah promises to write every day but Ethan discovers she has a new boyfriend
when he returns on a visit. Bailey gets sick and has to be put down.

In the third reincarnation, the puppy is a female German Shepherd named Ellie who becomes a
search and rescue dog. When she knows she's near death, she doesn't believe that she'll come back
again because she's done everything a dog can do.

In the last reincarnation, the puppy is a Black Lab and he meets his beloved Ethan again as an old
man. He reunites Ethan and Hannah who hadn't married one another. In each of his incarnations,
the dog learns something more about what a dog's purpose is and by the end of the book, he feels
he has fulfilled his purpose.
ENDING

Reincarnation was a cool twist on the typical dog story plot. It shows effectively what neglect can
really do to an innocent dog. I learned many lessons from this amazing book. One of them is to have
an aim in life. It gives your life clarity and makes you live with integrity. For instance, there’s a quote
in this book that says every dog happens for a reason. In addition, I learned that we should treat
animals with respect and care. Besides, another lesson I learned is that you should live your life to
the fullest. Life is short, so treat every moment as if it’s your last.

I personally think that this book is very interesting and everyone should read it. This book managed
to grab my attention since I’m an animal lover. I really hope you enjoyed watching my book review. I
would like to end it with a famous saying, we lose ourselves in books, we find ourselves there too.
Keep reading! Thank you.
