TRADUCTION BIO PROF

Eric AMPEAU

After studying the organ at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, Eric
Ampeau specialised at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan, then at the Musikhochschule in
Lübeck. Today he is organist and co-owner of the great organs of the Cathedral Saint-Louis des
Invalides and the church of Billettes in Paris. He performs in concert, as a soloist or with various
groups, in France and abroad. Eric Ampeau is a professor of music theory and sight-reading at
the École Normale de Musique de Paris.

Rafaël ANDIA

Rafael Andia, a guitarist of Spanish origin, first practised flamenco guitar before turning to
classical guitar. He has made two recordings of French composers he created (Jolivet, Murail...),
as well as the complete works of Robert de Visée for baroque guitar and those of the classics
Turina, Albéniz and Manuel de Falla.

Later, Rafael Andia became interested in writing, and recorded a CD of his works. He teaches
classical and baroque guitar at the École normale de musique de Paris.

Marc ANDRE

After studying at the École Normale de Musique de Paris with Jean Micault and Jules Gentil,
Marc André continued his training with Alfred Cortot in Paris and Siena. After winning the
Cziffra competition, he was appointed professor of piano at the École Normale de Musique de
Paris. At the same time, he composed film music and set up the Musical Academies of
Courchevel.

Marc André has performed in recitals and concerts in many countries, including Germany,
Switzerland, Japan and China. He has played Henri Dutilleux's Figures de résonances with
Geneviève Joy at the Salle Cortot. At the same time he has developed a career as a radio
producer and presenter and for three years he produced the Roque d'Anthéron festival for
France-Culture.

Guy ANGELLOZ
At a very young age, Guy Angelloz was a member of the Notre Dame de Paris masterclass
where he studied singing, piano and flute.

At the age of 20, he entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the
class of Jean-Pierre Rampal.

He was unanimously awarded three first prizes in harmony, chamber music and flute.

Winner of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation, Victoires de la musique, and the Georges Cziffra
Foundation, he became flutist in the symphonic orchestra of the Garde Républicaine.

He is also a professor at the Schola Cantorum, an assistant at the Ecole normale de musique de
Paris and conductor of the Ecce Cantus choir in Neuilly.

Guy Angelloz has been invited to numerous concerts as a soloist in Europe, the United States
and Japan.

François BALANCHE

An oboist and conductor by training, François Balanche holds a degree in philosophy, a Master's degree
in musicology and the Agrégation de musique. He is also a graduate of the Conservatoire National
Supérieur de Musique de Paris (analysis, aesthetics and music history prize). Currently a doctoral
student at the École des Hautes Etudes in sociales sciences under the direction of Esteban Buch, he is
devoting his thesis to the question of freedom in the work and writings of André Boucourechliev.

Based on the study of contemporary musical works, his research focuses on the articulation between
ethics and aesthetics (the "moral" component of musical works, the problem of the composer's
deontology), conceptual circulation (for example from the philosophical field to the musical field), and
the composer's writings, considered as a new object of scientific investigation (nature, typology,
functions...)

Katharina BARBOTEU-ITIN

Katharina Barboteu-Itin is a pianist of Swiss-German origin. She studied at the Hochschule de


Zürich before entering the École normale de musique de Paris where she obtained the Diplôme
Supérieur de piano. A winner of numerous competitions, she has performed throughout Europe
as a soloist, and has collaborated with actors in several musicals and shows. She is currently a
piano teacher at the École normale de musique de Paris.

Henri BARDA
A student of Ignaz Tiegerman in Cairo, Henri Barda continued his studies in Paris with Lazare
Lévy and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique and of Danse with Joseph
Benvenuti, Jean Hubeau and Madeleine Giraudeau.

At the Juilliard School in New York, he worked with Carlos Buhler, Beveridge Webster and Paul
Makanovitsky. Jerome Robbins entrusted him with the inclusion in the Paris Opera repertoire of
all his ballets on works by Chopin. This close collaboration with dance continued for over ten
years, at the Palais Garnier and on international tours.

Regularly invited to play in recital in France and Europe, Henri Barda often performs in Japan.
One of his recitals in Tokyo has been published on record (Label Sisyphe)

In July 2022, he gave a Chopin-Fauré-Ravel recital at the Mémorial de Verdun, co-organised by


the Association des Amis de Maurice Ravel of which he is an honorary member.

A rare pianist, Henri Barda has devoted a large part of his life to teaching, as a professor at the
Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris and now at the École normale de
musique de Paris.

Suzana BARTAL

French-Hungarian pianist Suzana Bartal was born in Timisoara and moved to France in 2005
where she studied in Paris and Lyon at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique. She
then studied at Yale University (USA) where she obtained her doctorate in performance.

Winner of the prestigious New York Concert Artists Concerto Competition in 2013, she has
performed in venues such as the Philharmonie de Paris, Salle Pleyel, Concertgebouw in
Amsterdam, Merkin Hall in New York, Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice or Milton Court in London
and in important series such as the Opéra d'Avignon, the Turku Music Festival (Finland)...

Suzana has participated in numerous broadcasts, as well as on French, Romanian and


Hungarian radio and television. Her recording of Liszt's complete "Années de pèlerinage",
released in March 2020 by Naïve, has received good reviews and several awards.

A very enthusiastic interpreter of contemporary music, Suzana has collaborated with some of
today's leading composers, such as Thomas Adès, Eric Tanguy (for whom she premiered several
works) and Régis Campo, as well as with the film composer Gabriel Yared.

She recorded Eric Tanguy's chamber music on an album released in May 2022 by Erato/Warner
with partners Edgar Moreau, Lise Berthaud, Pierre Génisson, Alexandra Conunova and the
Quatuor Diotima. This CD received the Diapason d'Or de l'Année 2022.
She is also very active as a chamber musician, performing with great cellists such as Henri
Demarquette, István Várdai, Alexandra Soumm... In 2022, she was invited as a member of the
jury of the prestigious Liszt Utrecht Competition. She was appointed artistic director of the
Piano Festival in Riom in 2020.

Alexandre BENETEAU

Alexandre Beneteau is a French composer who graduated from the Conservatoire National
Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he won prizes in harmony, counterpoint, fugue and
orchestration.

His catalogue includes solo, chamber, symphonic and vocal works, most of them commissioned
by festivals, ensembles or artists who appreciate his music in increasing numbers.

In 2009 he won the Seghizzi International Vocal Composition Competition (Italy) for his a
capella vocal piece "Succurre Miseris".

His works have been performed by renowned artists such as Marielle Nordmann, Romain Leleu,
the Orchestre National de Lyon, Nicolas Krauze or Géraldine Casey and Sylvain Gasançon and
have been heard in Italy, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Greece, Korea, China and South
Africa.

In 2015, he won a Gold Award at the International Independent Film Awards in Los Angeles for
a piece composed for Morgan Rauscent's documentary Finding Gondal: the story of the Brontë
family.

Alexandre Benéteau is professor of harmonic analysis at the École normale de musique de


Paris.

Erik BERCHOT

A graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, Erik Berchot


subsequently became a soloist with Radio France.
Winner of prestigious international competitions, including the "Chopin" competition in
Warsaw and the "Marguerite Long" competition, he has participated in several projects for
shows and films. In 2009, Erik Berchot was awarded the Chevalier de l'ordre national du Mérite.
In 2013, he toured internationally with Charles Aznavour in various cities around the world.
He is currently a piano teacher at the École normale de musique de Paris.

Philippe BIANCONI

Philippe Bianconi trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris under
Gaby Casadesus, and then deepened his knowledge of the German and Russian repertoires in
Freiburg-im-Breisgau with Vitalij Margulis.

He won first prize at the Jeunesses Musicales International Competition in Belgrade in 1977 and
at the Robert Casadesus International Competition in Cleveland in 1981. In 1985 he won the
Silver Medal at the Van Cliburn International Competition.

Since then, he has performed in the most renowned concert halls in America (Chicago
Orchestra Hall, Kennedy Center in Washington, San Francisco...) and in Europe (Wigmore Hall in
London, Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna, Milan, Madrid, Hamburg...), as well as in Japan and
Australia.

Philippe Bianconi has also been a guest of prestigious orchestras: Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago
Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Orchestre de Paris,
Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin, ... under the direction of conductors such as Lorin Maazel,
Kurt Masur, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Georges Prêtre, Gennadi Roshdestvensky ....

Between 2014 and 2017, he was appointed director of the American Conservatory of
Fontainebleau. Passionate about chamber music, he has worked with Jean-Pierre Rampal, Janos
Starker, Pierre Amoyal, Gary Hoffman, Tedi Papavrami, the Guarneri String Quartet...

Paul BLACHER

Paul Blacher learnt music and piano with his mother, a pupil of Alfred Cortot, Nadia Boulanger,
Olivier Messiaen and Georges Dandelot. He worked with Aldo Ciccolini, then with France Clidat,
who chose him as her assistant in the early 1980s. For more than thirty years he collaborated
with her in summer courses and in her class at the École normale de musique de Paris, where
he succeeded her after her death in 2012.

“Paul Blacher is today one of the greatest piano teachers I know”.

Véronique BONNECAZE
Véronique Bonnecaze, a graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris,
completed her piano training at the Juilliard School in New York. A prizewinner and finalist in
numerous international competitions, she gives recitals in France and throughout the world.
She also gives masterclasses in Japan, the United States and Italy, among others. She has
organised several musical events, competitions and concerts in France and Japan.

Among her recordings that have won awards from the music press is a recording of Chopin's 24
Études, praised by New York Times critic Harold C. Schonberg. Other recordings have earned
her various awards, such as Pianist Magazine's MAESTRO award for her LIVE recording in 2017,
as well as Diapason's (5 diapasons) award for her complete Chopin sonatas in 2019.

She is professor of piano at the École normale de musique de Paris and was in charge of the
Concerts de Midi et Demi from 2012 to 2015.

Maria CHIROKOLIYSKA

Maria Chirokoliyska was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. At the age of nine she entered the Special
School for Young Musicians in Plovdiv and at 19 the National Academy of Music in Sofia. In 2004
she obtained the Diploma of Concert Artist from the Hochschule für Musik de Darstellende
Kunst in Frankfurt.

In 2003, she won the First Prize and the Special Jury Prize at the renowned G. Bottesini
International Double Bass Competition. A unique performance for a woman in the history of
this competition, which brought her international fame.

Since 2007, Maria Chirokoliyska has been the double bass supersoloist of the Orchestre
National de France and continues to enrich her knowledge of orchestral work under the
direction of Masur, Muti, Gatti, Haitink, Ozawa, Davis, Gardiner, Zinman...

She is regularly invited to play in renowned European ensembles, as well as in numerous


chamber music festivals in France, Germany, Italy, Israel, Belgium, Poland, Morocco and
Switzerland.

She regularly gives masterclasses, notably at the Festival de Prades and at the Haute-École de
Musique Hemu in Lausanne.
