Installation and Requirements

This section details the requirements that must be met prior to installing iControl Solo on
your PC or laptop. It also provides upgrading and configuration guidelines.

About iControl Solo

iControl Solo is a standalone PC- based application that offers affordable monitoring and control directly
from your desktop. It allows easy list-based control and configuration of up to 100 Densité Series and/or
Imaging Series modules, and does not require a Miranda Application Server.
More advanced control requirements involving simultaneous, multi-device monitoring and error logging,
and a customized, highly-graphical user interface can be met with the iControl Web and iControl PM
applications.
1 Installation and Requirements

System Requirements
The PC or laptop must meet the following system requirements:

Recommended 512 MB of RAM

Pentium 4 at 2 GHz
100 MB of free hard drive space
1024 × 768 display resolution or better

Required Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista1

Ethernet NIC (for Densité Series frames2)

Imaging Requirements USB port (to connect Imaging frames to the PC by using the IC-USB device3),
or RS-232-to-RS-422 converter

1. Some system configuration required for Vista support (see Appendix A, “iControl Solo and Windows Vista,” on page 17
for details).
2. Densité Controller requires a redundant Ethernet connection (Densité-CPU-ETH or Densité-CPU-ETH2, included with
Densité 3 frames, available as an option for Densité 2 frames).
3. The IC-USB device is sold separately. The current version of iControl Solo does not support using this device on a PC or
laptop that has Windows Vista.

Installation and Upgrading

Before installing iControl Solo version 3.23, remove any earlier version of the software you may have on
your computer.

Uninstalling iControl Solo

To uninstall iControl Solo:
• On the Start menu, point to All Programs, Miranda Technologies, iControl Solo, and then click
Uninstall.
Note: Uninstalling iControl Solo will not delete your existing configuration data (e.g. Densité and Imaging
frame IP addresses, logical groups, etc.).

Installing iControl Solo

To install a new version:
1. Copy the installer file (iControlSoloSetup.exe) from the iControl Solo CD to your PC or laptop,
or download it from the Miranda Web site.

2
Configuration Guidelines

2. After verifying that any existing version has been uninstalled, open the installer file, and follow the on-
screen instructions.

Configuration Guidelines

Miranda Densité Series Frames

• iControl Solo supports a maximum of 100 Miranda interface cards (Densité and Imaging Series
combined).
• Thumbnail, audio level, and closed caption streaming are not supported in iControl Solo.
• Each frame must be registered to a single iControl Solo application. Ensure that the frame is not
registered to an iControl Application Server or to an RCP-100 device. Having the same frame report to
multiple Densité Managers may result in repeated loss of connection and system instability. The
Densité Controller only supports one client connection at a time.

Miranda Imaging Series Frames (Symphonie or Quartet 2)

• iControl Solo supports a maximum of 100 Miranda interface cards (Densité and Imaging combined).
• Quartet 1 and Solo frames are not supported.
• A maximum of four frames can be connected to each RS-422 communication port.
• When critical on-air equipment is controlled (e.g. incoming feeds) do not connect more than two
frames per RS-422 communication port.
• When using Symphonie frames that are fully loaded with XVP-801/811 and/or DAP-781 cards, do not
connect more than one frame per RS-422 communication port.

New Features and Enhancements in iControl Solo Version 3.23

[Ref. #21290] iControl Solo is now provided for free. No activation key is required.
[Ref. #20971] Alarm Configuration windows similar to those found in iControl versions 3.00 and later are
now available for all Densité services supported in iControl Solo.
Note: The GSM contribution and Log events columns seen in iControl’s Alarm Configuration
windows are not relevant in the context of iControl Solo, and have been removed.
Support for the following cards has been added:
• DCO-1741
2 Release Notes

• DCO-1781
• HCP-1801

New Features in iControl Solo Version 2.77

Support for the following cards has been added:
• XVP-3901
• HMP-1801
• IRD-3801/3802/3811
• MMX-1801
• FRS-1801
• HCO-1831
• HDA-1911/1931
• DAP-1781 (major update)

Fixed Bugs in iControl Solo Version 3.23

[Ref. #14945] The DAP-1781’s optional hardware module for upmixing using Linear Acoustic technology
(MOD-LA-DUP-701) is not supported.
[Ref. #17819] After the iControl Solo system is configured, changing the PC hostname or the IP address
will require that all devices in iControl Solo be reconfigured.
[Ref. #18990] The reference configuration feature (associated with the Config status column in the
Navigator views) is not supported.
[Ref. #19463] It may happen that the copy profile feature that is available with many of our Densité cards
does not successfully copy parameters to all cards.

Known Issues and Limitations

The following is a list of known issues and limitations associated with iControl Solo version 2.7x and later.
The star () symbol indicates a new issue in iControl Solo version 3.23.
[Ref. #21239] The installation program is not fully compatible with Windows Vista. See Appendix A,
“iControl Solo and Windows Vista,”for details.

6
Cards and Devices Supported in this Release

[Ref. #21241] To use iControl Solo on your PC or laptop, you do not need to be logged on to an
administrator account, but some user account privileges and configuration are necessary: if you have a
restricted user account have your system administrator grant you write access to
C:\Miranda\iControlSolo and its sub-folders.

[Ref. #21532] In the Densité Manager’s Target Information window (on the DensiteManager control
panel’s Configuration tab, click Add), the Redundancy Configuration and Mode sections are not
relevant in the context of iControl Solo.
[Ref. #19004] When you open a service’s control panel by using the Show Info control panel command
(right-click a device in the Navigator view, and then click Show info control panel on the shortcut
menu) it sometimes happens that the Info tab does not receive the focus.
Workaround: Once the control panel is open, click the Info tab.
• Some card services like the HCO-1821, the XVP-811 or the DAP-781 may take up to 60 seconds to
initialize. Meanwhile, the card may appear in the list of services but the control panel will not show
statuses and parameter values.
• It could take up to one minute for iControl Solo’s Navigator window to reflect that services are no longer
available.
• Startup time may be affected by having multiple frames configured in the Densité Manager, even if
they are set to Standby mode.
• Spaces are not supported in the installation path. For this reason, the software is not installed in
C:\Program Files\ by default, but in C:\Miranda\iControlSolo.
• Installing on a drive other than the C:\ drive is not supported. Use the C:\ drive.
• It can take up to two minutes to discover and initialize an Imaging Series frame.
• The Quartet 1 and Solo Imaging Series frames are not supported.
• Thumbnail, audio level and closed caption streaming from Miranda Densité series probes are not
supported.

Cards and Devices Supported in this Release

Densité Series Cards

iControl version 3.31 and iControl Solo version 3.23 are compatible with both Densité Ethernet Controllers
(CPU-ETH and CPU-ETH2). In the case of CPU-ETH, it is strongly recommended to upgrade to the latest
Densité Ethernet Controller version (3.00 or later). Use the Miranda Interface Updater to upgrade the
Densité Ethernet Controller.
