Emergency Maintenance Work Report

In Awash 7 230/132/66/15kv there was emergency problem on June 20 and 29 2015.The

problems were

 Redundant tripping of 132/66/15Kv power transformer 2 due to non-electrical

guards
 132/66/15Kv Transformer 2 132kv CB mechanism mechanical locking during
operation
 132/66/15Kv Transformer 132KV CB Spring charge alignment problem
resulting in CB closing and tripping failure.
 132/66/15Kv Transformer bay tripping circuit problem

Solution taken

The breaker spring charging mechanism was aligned by using crick and pulling up the stored
spring force upward to make aligned to the normal position

The tripping circuit was totally missed during the project handover and is fixed by tracing the
whole circuit and building new modified wiring diagram.

The electrical guard’s connection was wrong and is fixed by designing new schematic circuit and
diagram.

The testing of the new extension wiring circuit and the breaker tripping is done successfully
Future work to be done urgently
Awash substation has complicated problems and require detail investigation, inspection.
Moreover there are lot of problems resumed from the project hand over. As much as possible the
substation require urgent full inspection and investigation to avoid the redundancy of power
outage.
Some of the problems required urgent solution.
 Transformer electrical and non-electrical full investigation
 Circuit breaker mal operation
 15kv Switchgear operation problem
 Transformer protection relay are not functional
 230kv bus bar not functional
 Wiring circuit of transformer and 15kv bays
