Drought
Linh : Hello everyone, today my group including ( kể tên ra nha ) gonna tell u about one the most
destructive natural disaster: drought.
What is drought?
A drought is generally defined as a period of below-average precipitation in a given region, resulting
in prolonged shortages in water supply. A drought can last for months or years, and can have a
substantial impact on the environment, ecosystem and agriculture of the affected region.
Tuan:
So how can this happen?
When rainfall is less than normal for a period of weeks to years, streamflows decline, water levels in
lakes and reservoirs fall, and the depth to water in wells increases. If dry weather persists and water-
supply problems develop, the dry period can become a drought.

Phuoc:
Are there any consequences of drought?
Drought mainly causes long-term public health problems, including:
Shortages of drinking water and poor quality drinking water.
Impacts on air quality, sanitation and hygiene, and food and nutrition.
More disease, such as West Nile Virus carried by mosquitoes breeding in stagnant water.
In one of these the most dangerous things can happen is the displacement:

_People must travel further to find clean water. This usually falls to women and children, who must
sacrifice other work and school to carry out an incredibly physical task. Without access to clean
water or food, many must permanently leave their homes in order to survive.

Phuong:
How to prevent this disaster?
We can do things like:

Desalination of water
Rainwater harvesting
Drip Irrigation
Improve the Crop engineering
Solar pumps
And so on….
Hoang:
Did this happen or just a kind of theory?

Viet Nam experienced the longest and strongest El Niño-induced drought and saline water intrusion
period since late 2015, severely affecting more than 18 provinces in the three regions which produce
key agricultural export and food security crops such as rice, coffee, pepper, fruits and aquaculture.
