The teacher will demo how

to iron clothes using flat iron,
and dry leaves of banana.

Ironing is the process of using an iron to remove

wrinkles from damp, washable clothing—the
process of sliding the steam iron back and forth
over the fabric while applying light pressure.

Ironing also manipulates the fabric in clothes to

improve their quality and ensure a long life.

Having clean and fresh clothes leaves you feeling

better about yourself and boosts self-
confidence.

Pressing involves no sliding of the iron; the iron

is placed on the fabric and then lifted.
Pressing is recommended on more heat-
sensitive items, such as men's suits, wool, net,
pile fabrics, and some silks and rayons.

Procedures in Ironing / Pressing the Clothes

1. Sprinkle water slightly all over the clothes.

Roll each piece separately and place it in a clean
basket, basin, or bucket.

2. Prepare flat iron, ironing board, and sprayer

or damp towel.

3. Set the flat iron to the desired temperature

suited to the type of cloth.

Iron Settings Not all fabrics require or can

tolerate the same heat level, so steam irons
feature various settings for different types of
material. Choose these settings carefully to
prevent permanent damage to clothing and
linens.
There are three most common settings on
steam irons:
Cool setting—248°F. Use this setting for
synthetic materials.
Warm setting—320°F. Use this setting for silk
and wool.
Hot setting—370°F. Use this setting for cotton
and linen.
4. Start on the wrong side of the garment
pressing the pocket and seams. Proceed with
the collar, shoulder, sleeves, and wristband.

5. Continue pressing by sliding the dress/ shirt

and other pants into the ironing board.

6. Avoid having double longitudinal fold on each

of the edges of the pants and pleats of the skirt.
7. Do not leave fold marks on the sleeves of the
blouse or dress to remain wrinkle-free.

8. Hand the clothes properly and fold those

clothes neatly for home use.
