Laboratories play a vital role in diagnostic medicine, providing crucial information that aids in the
accurate identification, monitoring, and treatment of various diseases and health conditions. These
diagnostic laboratories are essential components of healthcare systems worldwide, serving as the
cornerstone of modern medical practice. They employ a wide range of sophisticated technologies,
methodologies, and highly skilled professionals to analyze samples and generate valuable diagnostic
data.
If you are concerned about dyslipidemia, it's important to understand what it is and why it is
significant for your health. Dyslipidemia refers to an abnormal level of lipids (such as cholesterol and

procedure, facts to take into account and the type of exams that we must realize if we suspect a
arteriosclerosis in our patient.

Our patient Mona Megistus had headache, sudden weakness, numbness in his limbs and angina
which is a chest pain that occurs when the heart muscle doesn't receive enough blood due to
narrowed or blocked coronary arteries, sudden weakness and numbness in his arms and legs.
Also, when we saw his clinical history, we discovered that Mona has a serious problem of obesity.
She is 40 kilos overweight at the young age of 27 years. Finally, when we read the doctors suspicion,
we realize that we could be leading with a serious case of arteriosclerosis.
Considering all this risk factors and sings We decided to do a lipid panel to our patient to know the
concentration of the following lipids:
high density lipoprotein cholesterol:this is better known as the good cholesterol bexoyse it moves
the exesed cholesterol from the vesels to the liver, that is why it is important to have a high level of
the HDL
low density lipoprotein cholesterol: it is better know as the bad Choñesterol. It moves cholesterol
from the liver to the cells however in the process of artherogenesis this type of cholesterol beguins
to acumulate inside de blood vesseel
triglycerides:it is a lipid obteined from the food we eat, high concentrations of triglycerids are
asociated with cardiovascular disease.
In orther to do this type of exams we are going to need a blood sample becouse all this component
the lipid panel are present in the blood serum, but before we take the blood sample our patient
have to fast from eigth to twelve hours.
First we have to evaluate the arms of our patient and then chose the one with a more visible veins.
Then with a small ball of cotton and some droops of alcohol we are going to desinfect the inside of
the elbow. After that we apply a tourniquet and proced with the venipuncture and collect the blood
needed.
Then we have to use our biochemical analyser and if we obtain high Results of LDL, VLDL,
TRIGLUCCERIDS and TOTAL CHOLESTEROL we can confirm that our patient have arteriosclerosis
It's important to note that arteriosclerosis may be asymptomatic in its early stages, making regular
screenings and risk factor assessments crucial for early detection and prevention of complications. If
you experience any symptoms or have risk factors for arteriosclerosis, it is recommended to consult
with a healthcare professional who can evaluate your condition and recommend appropriate
diagnostic exams
