1. Remove all jewelry, watch and other accessories.
2. Wash hands with soap and water. Use the nail pick to
clean under the nails. Dry with clean towel.
3. 1st Pump. Put approximately 5ml of antiseptic solution
in the palm of one hand. Use the elbow of the other arm
to operate the dispenser.
4. Dip the fingertips of the other hand in the hand rub to
decontaminate under the nails (5 seconds).
5. With the excess solution on the palm of one hand,
spread the excess solution to the opposite finger, hand,
arm and elbow. Do a circular motion in the hand, arm,
and elbow.
6. 2nd Pump. Repeat steps 3 – 5 on the other hand, arm,
and elbow.
7. 3rd Pump. Put approximately 5ml of antiseptic solution
in the palm of the left hand, using the elbow of the other
arm to operate the dispenser. Rub both hands at the
same time up to the wrists.
8. Cover the whole surface of the hands up to the wrist with
antiseptic solution, rubbing palm against palm with a
rotating movement.
9. Rub the back of the hands up to the wrist with an
antiseptic solution, rubbing palm against palm with a
rotating movement.
10. Rub the back of the left hand, including the wrist, moving
the right palm back and forth and vice-versa.
11. Rub palm against palm back and forth with fingers
interlinked.
12. Rub the thumb of the left hand by rotating it in the
clasped palm of the right hand and vice versa.

13. Proceed to operating theatre while the hands are at the


level of neck down to waist. When the hands are dry,
sterile surgical clothing and gloves can be donned.

1. Select a pair of sterile gloves that fits your hand size.
2. Remove all jewelry, watch and other accessories.
3. Perform hand hygiene.
4. Clean surface to open sterile field and raise its height to
waist level.
5. Inspect packaging for sterility.
6. Open sterile packaging by peeling open the top seam
and pulling down.
7. Place inner package on working surface and open to
see right and left gloves. Start with the dominant hand
first.
8. Pick up the glove for the dominant hand by touching the
inside cuff of the glove. Do not touch the outside of the
glove. Pull glove completely over the dominant hand.
9. Insert gloved hand into the cuff of the remaining glove.
Pull remaining glove on non-dominant hand and insert
fingers. Adjust gloves if necessary.
10. Once gloves are on, interlock gloved hands and keep at
least six inches away from clothing, keeping hands
above waist level and below the shoulders.
