Forging Process
1.Forging:
The forging process of forceps typically involves several operations, including blanking,
annealing, forming or stamping, trimming, and finishing. The specific steps may vary depending on the
design and manufacturing process used, but the following is a general outline of the forging process for
forceps:

1.1Shearing:
The guillotine shear machine is a type of industrial equipment that is used to cut large
sheets of material such as metal. The process of shearing involves placing the material to be cut
between the blades of the guillotine shear machine and then activating the machine to make a clean
and precise cut.

It is correct that a guillotine shear machine can be used to cut large sheets of material to the required
size for blanking. The guillotine shear machine is a popular choice for cutting large sheets of material
to the required size for blanking because it can make clean and precise cuts quickly and efficiently.

In addition to cutting the length of the sheet, the width of the sheet can also be set in the guillotine
shear machine, making it a versatile tool for cutting material to the required size for blanking. Once
the sheet has been cut to the required size, it can then be further processed using blanking dies.

1.2Blanking:
To manufacture forceps from a sheet of metal, the initial step involves cutting the basic
shape. This is usually accomplished by employing a die and a press, where the die is used to create
the specific shape, and the press applies pressure to the sheet of metal. The metal sheet is then
transformed into the desired shape. The cutting dies for this process are made according to drawing.

1.3Die Making at EDM Machine:

The electrode or mold for electric discharge machining
(EDM) can be made by carving or shaping a copper work-piece using various machining operations
and filing, until it reaches the required dimensions. After the electrode has been created, two dies
are made using the copper electrode. One die is male and the other is female, and they are
typically used for hot forming processes.

The material used for the dies is D2 steel.

1.4Hot Forming:
In hot forming, the metal material is typically heated to a temperature above its
recrystallization temperature, which allows the material to be more easily formed and reduces
the risk of cracking or fracturing. The heated material is then formed or stamped using specialized
tools and dies that are designed to produce the desired shape and size. The hot forming process
can be used with a variety of different metals, including steel, aluminum, and titanium.

The hot forming process temperature for forceps made from AISI 420 stainless steel typically
ranges between 1000°C to 1150°C (1832°F to 2102°F). This is above the recrystallization
temperature of the material and allows it to be more easily formed into the desired shape using

a press and specialized tools.

1.5Trimming:
Once the metal has been stamped or formed into the basic shape of the forceps, excess
material is removed by trimming the edges. This is typically done using a trimming Die.

1.6Annealing:
After trimming process of whole piece annealing process will be performed to
Soft the material according to requirement.
1.6.1 Heating: Trimmed Pieces of Forceps (AISI 420 steel) is heated in a furnace to a
temperature range of 750°C to 900°C (1382°F to 1652°F) to ensure that the material
is above its critical temperature, which is around 720°C (1328°F).
1.6.2 Soaking: The steel is kept at the temperature for a sufficient period of time to allow
the material to reach a uniform temperature throughout. The duration of the soaking
process depends on the thickness of the material being annealed, but typically ranges
from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
1.6.3 Cooling: The heated steel is removed from the furnace and allowed to cool down to
room temperature.

1.7Ring-Inside Trimming:
The excess material on the inside of the ring is removed through trimming
using a die and small press. This step is crucial for achieving the final desired shape and size of the ring.

1.8Shot Blast:
This Process is performed to improve their surface finish and enhance their
properties. The process involves the use of abrasive materials, such as steel shot or grit, which
are propelled at high speeds towards the Forceps using compressed air. The impact of the
abrasive material on the surface of the Forceps removes any unwanted material, such as scale,
rust, or other surface contaminants, leaving a clean and smooth surface finish.
The shot blasting process for forged and trimmed forging Forceps of forceps typically involves
the following steps:
1.8.1 Loading: The forged and trimmed Forceps are loaded onto a conveyor belt or a
rotating table that moves the Forceps through the shot blasting machine.
1.8.2 Abrasive material selection: The appropriate abrasive material is selected based on
the type and thickness of the Forceps material, as well as the desired surface finish.
The abrasive material is loaded into the shot blasting machine's hopper.
1.8.3 Blasting: The shot blasting machine is started, and the abrasive material is propelled
towards the Forceps using compressed air. The Forceps is rotated or moved along the
conveyor belt to ensure that all areas of the surface are blasted evenly.

1.8.4 Dust collection: As the abrasive material impacts the surface of the Forceps, it creates
dust and debris that can be harmful to the environment and the operator. A dust
collection system is used to capture the dust and debris, allowing for safe and efficient
operation of the shot blasting process.
1.8.5 Unloading: Once the Forceps have been blasted, they are removed from the shot
blasting machine and inspected to ensure that the desired surface finish has been
achieved.

1.9Cold Stroke:
At the end of all these operations a cold stroke will be performed. A cold
stroke is a metalworking technique in which a die is used to apply force to a work piece without
heating it up. This can be done to achieve precise shaping and dimensions.
After the cold stroke has been applied, excess material that was drawn out during the process
may need to be removed.
