Placemat weaving
Materials:
 construction paper, ruler, scissors, pencil, glue
What to do:
1. Choose two contrasting colors of construction paper. Cut one half-inch wide strips of the first
color. You can make strips long by pasting the ends of two strips together.
2. Cut the next batch of strips shorter than the first batch. Use a ruler to measure the length and
keep the strips straight.
3. You can add a design by using more than two colors of construction paper.
4. Place the long strips horizontally and weave the short strips vertically. Attach the ends of the
horizontal strips to one of the vertical strips using glue or tape. Alternate the top and bottom
attachment.
5. Weave the remaining vertical strips, securing their ends to the top and bottom horizontal strips.
Depending on your design, you may attach different color strips or alternate the colors of your
vertical strips.
6. Trim the edges with scissors.
