Assignment: 2

Instructions:

 Assignment 2 is based on the following text/paragraph of case study/situational exercise etc. You first need to
read this text and then answer the following MCMR i.e. Multiple choice multiple response questions.
 Number of Questions: 10
 Each question carries 2 Mark
 All Ten Questions are Mandatory.

There are different types of pollution, such as industrial, nuclear, and agricultural. Industrial pollution mainly consists of chemical emissions from
factories, mines, and other industrial facilities. Nuclear pollution is the emission of radioactive materials from the operation of nuclear reactors or
from the testing of nuclear weapons. Agricultural pollution happens when chemicals from pesticides, fertilizers, and livestock feed pollute water
sources or soil. These are the most common types of pollution, but there are many others. For example, noise pollution is a type of air pollution that
occurs when there is excessive noise that exceeds what is considered healthy or normal. Light pollution is another form of air pollution that
happens when there is excessive artificial light that interferes with the circadian rhythm of humans. Water pollution happens when there are
contaminants in water sources that negatively affect the health of humans. Land pollution happens when there is excessive material on the land
that negatively affects humans and ecosystems. There are many other types of pollution, but these are the most common. There are different types
of air pollution, and each one comes with its own risks. Certain types of air pollution, like ozone and particulate matter, can cause both short- and
long-term health problems. Others, like carbon monoxide, are more immediately dangerous, but they don’t pose long-term health risks. Short-term
health problems can include things like nausea, headaches, and trouble breathing. Long-term problems can include asthma, reduced lung function,
and certain types of cancer. In some cases, air pollution can even cause death. The best way to protect yourself from air pollution is to limit your
exposure as much as possible. Where you live and work, what you drive, and how you get around can all influence your level of exposure.

Water pollution, the release of substances into subsurface groundwater or into lakes, streams, rivers, estuaries, and oceans to the point where the
substances interfere with beneficial use of the water or with the natural functioning of ecosystems. Water bodies can be polluted by a wide variety of
substances, including pathogenic microorganisms, putrescible organic waste, fertilizers and plant nutrients, toxic chemicals, sediments, heat,
petroleum (oil), and radioactive substances. Water pollutants come from either point sources or dispersed sources. A point source is a pipe or channel,
such as those used for discharge from an industrial facility or a city sewerage system. Solid waste The improper disposal of solid waste is a major
source of water pollution. Solid waste includes garbage, rubbish, electronic waste, trash, and construction and demolition waste, all of which are
generated by individual, residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial activities. Waste is considered toxic if it is poisonous, radioactive,
explosive, carcinogenic (causing cancer), mutagenic (causing damage to chromosomes), teratogenic (causing birth defects), or bio accumulative (that
is, increasing in concentration at the higher ends of food chains). There are several types of water quality standards. Stream standards are those that
classify streams, rivers, and lakes on the basis of their maximum beneficial use; they set allowable levels of specific substances or qualities (e.g.,
dissolved oxygen, turbidity, pH) allowed in those bodies of water, based on their given classification.  0
