Main Aim(s) At the end of the lesson, the students should be to discuss the
forms of Business Studies

Subsidiary Aims By the end of the lesson, the students should be able

1. explain the meaning of Business Studies

2. state the importance of Business Studies

3. identify the components of Business Studies

4. list career opportunities in Business Studies

Personal Aim To meet up with the time assigned to each stages of the lesson
and the three (3) styles of learning.

Assumption / Entry The students have not learnt similar topic, but must have heard
Behavior about Business Studies and as such will find the topic difficult.

Anticipated Problem Some students may not be able to understand how the
components of Business Studies apply to practical business
system and operation.

Possible Solution The teacher shall teach the students Introduction to Business
Studies using explanation and demonstration teaching methods.

Evaluation (Learners) The teacher will assess the extent to which the learners
understood the lesson being taught by asking the following
questions:

2. State four importance of Business Studies

3. Identify four components of Business Studies

4. Mention five career opportunities in Business Studies

Evaluation (Teacher) The teacher will assess himself base on the responses of the
learners to the evaluation, if the responses are not satisfactory, the
shall teacher revisit the lesson.

Summary 1. Business Studies: Is the study of methods and techniques of


setting up and running a business profitably.

LESSON PRESENTATION

Step I: MEANING OF BUSINESS STUDIES

Business Studies: Is the study of methods and techniques of setting up and running a business
profitably. The main objective of a business is to make profit.

Step II: IMPORTANCE OF BUSINESS STUDIES

1. It teaches us how the office function

2. It teaches us how to enter transactions in different books and keep accounts resulting there
on,

3. It teaches us how to own and run a small business enterprise,


4. It teaches us how to manipulate the keyboard of a computer for the enhancement of
business.

5. It creates employment opportunity

Step III: COMPONENTS OF BUSINESS STUDIES

The components of Business Studies include;

1. Office Practice:- Office practice deals with the principles and procedure of running the affairs
of an office.

2. Commerce:- Commerce is that part of business endeavor that deals with trade and aids to
trade.

3. Bookkeeping:- Bookkeeping is concerned with the recording of the day to day transactions of
a business in an orderly manner.

4. keyboarding:- Keyboarding is the act of using the computer or typewriter keyboard to


produce printed information in hard or soft copy. Hard copy refers to information on paper
while soft copy refers to information on the computer storage devices

Step IV: CAREER/EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN BUSINESS STUDIES

Those who have undergone training in Business Studies can be employed as :

1. Clerks : who keep general office records.

2. Typists : who do copy typing in the office.

3. Computer Operators : who use computer to produce office information .

4. Bookkeepers/Account clerks : who keep record on business transactions.

5. Salesmen : who sell goods in supermarkets and stores.

6. Receptionists : who receive visitors and telephone calls.

7. Self-employed : they become a boss of their own.

8.Those who complete their secondary education can study the following courses in the high
institution: accountancy, business administration, banking and finance marketing,etc.
