Background:
Bimbo is a Mexican multinational bakery product manufacturing company. It was founded
in Mexico City in 1945 by Lorenzo Servitje, Jaime Jorba, Jaime Sendra, Alfonso Velasco,
and José T. Mata. The name "Bimbo" was chosen as a combination of the words "Bambi"
(a popular Disney character at the time) and "Bambino" (Italian for "little child").
Initially, Bimbo focused on producing white bread, and it quickly gained popularity in the
Mexican market. Over the years, the company expanded its product range to include a wide
variety of bakery products, including sliced bread, buns, cookies, pastries, snacks, and
tortillas.
Bimbo's growth and success led to its expansion beyond Mexico. In the 1980s, the company
began establishing operations in other countries, starting with the acquisition of Ideal in the
United States. Since then, Bimbo has grown through a series of strategic acquisitions, both
domestically and internationally, expanding its presence to over 30 countries across four
continents.
Today, Bimbo, is one of the largest bakery companies in the world.
