Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in English

GRADE 9

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a) Identify the basic parts and state the importance of learning of speech.
b) Construct a sentence using each parts of speech.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Parts of Speech
Reference: Better English for Philippines High School
Materials: PPT, Video clip, Video song, Video discussion

III. Procedure
A. Daily Routine
i. Greetings
ii. Prayer
iii. Checking Attendance

B. Review/Lesson Preview
The teacher will ask the following questions:
 What are the main parts of speech?
 How do we categorized parts of speech?
 What is the purpose of parts of speech in our lives?

C. Motivation
“GUESS THE WORDS AND PHRASES”
The teacher will make the students play the “Guess the Words and
Phrases”. The class will be divided into 2 groups and each group need a 5
representative. These group will be engage in a fun friendly competition. The
teacher will say a words or phrases and each representative who raise their
hands will get the chance to answer and get a point.

Instruction: Each group member needs to identify the given words or


phrases if what part of speech is it. The group who got most of the answers
wins.

D. Lesson Proper
a. Content and Skill Building
The teacher will discuss the following:
WHAT ARE THE 8 PARTS OF SPEECH?
1. Noun
2. Pronoun
3. Adjective
4. Verb
5. Adverb
6. Conjunction
7. Preposition
8. Interjection

NOUNS- name of a person, place, animals, things, places and events.


Example:
Kylie is a pro-golfer
The dog was lonely for me
The bakery has fresh baked goods
TYPES OF NOUNS
Common Noun- A noun that does not a specific person, place,
animals, things, places and events.
Proper Noun- A noun that names a specific person, place, animals,
things, places and events.

PRONOUNS- a pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun.


Example: I, me, my, you, your, he, she, it, us, we, they, them, his, her,
their, mine, our, myself, himself, herself, itself, yourself, themselves,
ourselves, who, whose, whom, anybody, nobody, someone,
somebody.
ADJECTIVE- An adjective is a word that describes a noun or pronoun. It tells
what kind, how many, or which one.
Example: beautiful, green shirt, sour limes

VERB- A verb is the action of the sentence. It shows what someone or


something is doing.
Example: run, paint, read

ADVERB- An adverb describes how the action is performed. They tell how
much, how often, when and where something is done.
Example:
The fish jumped quickly from the water.
The man sat alone.

CONJUNCTION- A conjunction is a word that joins word or words groups


together.
Example: and, but, or, nor, although, yet so, either, and also.

PREPOSITION- A preposition is a word that shows position or direction.


Example: are in, out under, over, after, out, into, up, down, for, and
between.

INTERJECTION- An interjection is a word that shows strong emotion.


Example: Wow!, Ouch!, Hooray!, and Oh no!

b. Guided Practice
COLLABORATIVE LEARNING
The teacher will group the class into 2 groups and task each group to
do the following:
Group Instruction:
Group 1: This group will identify the sentence in the video c
lip that they watch if what part of speech is it.
Group 2: This group will differentiate parts of speech and giving
2 examples
each.
c. Independent Activity
The teacher will provide a example of video music and divide the
class into groups with 6 members each and task each group to write a
their preferred song about parts of speech and they will sing it.

Instructions: Write a song about parts of speech and sing it after.

Group Instructions:
1. Divide the class into groups with 6 members each.
2. Instruct the learners to:
a) Write a song about parts of speech.
b) Each member should participate in the music video.
3. Music video is 5mins works, 3mins performing.

Criteria:

c. Application
The teacher will provide a printed modules divide the class into two
(2) groups and each group members to participate collaboratively.

Instructions: From the video discussion, you are going to


brainstorming about the parts of speech and write it in the paper.

d. Generalization
The teacher will ask the following questions:
 What are the eight parts of speech?
 Why do you think its important to learn the parts of speech in the
application of the grammar rules?

IV. Evaluation
The teacher will give a set of statements and task the student to identify the
correct parts of speech.

Instructions: Identify what parts of speech is in the statements. Write your


answer on the space provided. (Noun, Pronoun, Adjective, Verb, Adverb,
Conjunction, Preposition, Interjection)

Directions: In a one whole sheet of paper, write a five sentences each parts
of speech.
