SEJ has built one of the world’s largest information networks, which links stores,
headquarters, combined distribution centers, and suppliers. This system is very practical
and offers logistics advantages for customers, franchised stores and suppliers.

SEJ has the ability to differentiate its operations from those of competitors because of
their more than 1000 original products lineup, which create the ability to maintain strong
store loyalty.

o Seven Eleven has a long history of implementing and developing IS to its franchise stores

distribution centers and suppliers. In addition, it has also established a combined
distribution system that is managed by third party. This system is very practical and
offers logistics advantages for customers, franchised stores and suppliers.

o Establishing its own POS software called Coyote
Coyote offers an easier solution to ordering, stock control management and invoicing. It
operates on the cloud in real-time.

Unlike Japanese convenience store, Night Owl has already integrated pay-wave into its
payment system, creating a smoother transactions compared with those who still use
electronic money, traditional card payment and/or cash payment.

Case Report

For this report, I have chosen two companies, consisting of one small or medium company
(Night Owl) and one large company (Seven Eleven Japan). Seven Eleven is a subsidiary of
Seven Eleven Japan Co., Ltd, which operates as an international chain of convenience store. The
other company, Night Owl, is a franchised system of convenience stores operating in Australia.
The purpose of this report is to analyze the common points and point of difference of these two
companies. This report also aims to determine the impact of the implementation of Information
System to the company’s performance.
