8. TARGET MEAN COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH (FCK)

(IS: 10262-2019 Clauses-4.2 & Clause 4.2.1.3)
The Target mean Compressive Strength required to be achieved by the designed mix in the
Laboratories
Fck =fck+1.65 x S F’ck = fck+ X
= 25 + 1.65 X 4 = 31.6 N/mm2 25+ 5.5= 30.5 N/mm2
Where
F ck = Target mean Compressive Strength at 28 days (N/mm2)
fck = Characteristic Compressive Strength at 28 days (N/mm2)
S =Standard deviation
X =Factor Based on Grade of Concrete
Higher Value is to be adopted. Therefore, target strength will be 31.6 N/mm2 as 31.6 > 30.5

Fck = 31.6 N/mm2

MIX DESIGN CALCULATION (TRIAL-I)

7. Selection of Water Cement Ratio
From Table 5 of IS 456 : 2000, maximum Water Cement ratio = 0.5

Adopted water cement ratio =0.46, 0.46 < 0.50, Hence OK.
8. SELECTION OF WATER CONTENT
From Table 4 of IS 10262-2019, maximum water content for 20 mm Aggregate =186 litre

Estimated water content for 100-150mm slump = 186 + (186 x 3/100) = 191.58 Liter

Based on trial with admixture dose @0.7% water content reduction of 18.4% has been achieved.

Arrived water content =(191.58-(191.58x18.4/100)) = 156.4 liter.

9. CALCULATION OF CEMENT CONTENT

Adopt Water-cement ratio = 0.46
156.4 From IS 456 Table No 5
Cement content = 340 kg/m3
0.46

Minimum Cement Content for moderate condition = 300 kg/m3

From IS 456 Table No 6

300 < 340, Hence OK.

So the Cement Content = 340 kg/m3

The mix calculations per unit volume of concrete shall be as follows

e) Volume of all in aggregate = (a-(b+c+d)) = = (1-(0.1079+0.1564+0.0022)) m3 = 0.7335 M3

f) Mass of coarse aggregate = e x Volume coarse aggregate x combine Sp. Gravity of coarse aggregate x 1000

NOTE:-

1 It is advised to check the silt content of sand at frequent intervals during the supply. If the silt Content in sand is higher than the permissible limit the sand
may require washing.
2
The mix design can be adopted at the site after carrying out trials, as usual.

Conclusion and Recommendations

As per the trials and laboratory test results it is recommended that trial-II may be taken as a final Mix design. The
given materials when mixed in proportion (by weight) of 1 cement: 2.173 Fine aggregate: 3.172 Coarse Aggregate with a W/C
Ratio of 0.45 will be able to produce a concrete of desired characteristic compressive strength of 25 N/mm2 (M-25) required in
field after 28 days within the design stipulations provided by the customer. The chemical admixture “FOSROC” with the dosing
0.8% by weight of cement has been used in the mix design.
