Repair Procedure
Loading Map Firmware onto Navigation Update Tool
NOTE
The Navigation Update Tool MUST have the latest "Navigation Program Installer" before
performing this TSIB. For installation procedure, refer to TSIB L-SB-0180-09, "HDD Navigation
Program Setup".
1. Turn on TIS Techstream.
2. Log into TIS.
3. Download the "Vehicle Navigation Software Update" from TIS.
A. Click on the TIS tab.
B. Click on the Diagnostics tab.

C. Click on the Tools & Equipment tab.
D. Click on the Navigation Update Tool tab under Tools.
E. Click on the applicable Generation 5 software version under Available Software Updates.
NOTE
If the TIS division is NOT set to Lexus (under the My Account area), the Navigation Update Tool
tab will NOT display. Navigation Update is a Lexus ONLY TIS option at this time.
4. Click Open to begin the download.
NOTE
The file is large and may take up to 10 minutes to download.
5. Connect the Navigation Update Tool to the PC using the USB cable.

1. NOTICE FOR DISCONNECTING CABLE FROM NEGATIVE (-) BATTERY TERMINAL
NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6
minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch
off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
2. NOTICE FOR INITIALIZATION
NOTE: When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following
systems after the cable is reconnected.
3. INSPECTION PRECAUTION FOR LEXUS LINK SYSTEM
(a) When the mayday battery runs low, the mayday ECU sets DTC 6-1. Perform troubleshooting
according to the malfunction indicated by 6-1.
4. WHEN REPLACING MAYDAY ECU
(a) If replacement of the ECU is necessary, replace the mayday battery (backup battery) together
with the ECU. After the replacement, register the

The information contained in this TSIB supersedes TSIB No. L-SB-0046-08.
^ Location of HDD Navigation information has changed on TIS, which is reflected in this TSIB.
TSIB No. L-SB-0046-08 is Obsolete and any printed versions should be discarded. Be sure to
review the entire content of this service bulletin before proceeding.
Introduction
Lexus models equipped with a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation System contain a jukebox feature
that allows up to 2000 audio recordings to be transferred from their original CD media to the HDD
on-board the vehicle. Detailed information about the audio recordings is attached to each track at
the time of transfer. When each audio track is presented on the touch screen informational details
including Genre Artist Album and Title are presented. This detailed track information is stored on
the HDD in the Compact Disc Database or CDDB.
CDDB data updates will be released quarterly through the Technical Information System (TIS) and
can be uploaded to the vehicle using the Navigation Update Tool and Navigation Programs
Installer software. CDDB data only needs to be loaded onto the Navigation Update Tool once per
quarterly release. Vehicle CDDB updates are performed using the Navigation Update Tool.
Follow the procedures listed in this bulletin to:
^ Determine the current version of the CDDB data on the vehicle and installed on the Navigation
Update Tool.
^ Load the latest CDDB data onto the Navigation Update Tool.
^ Connect the Navigation Update Tool to the vehicle and update the vehicle to the latest release.
^ Update the CDDB data for any audio tracks transferred to the vehicle for which CDDB data was
not previously available.

With the engine switch on (IG), press and hold the PTT button, and then press the VOL+ button 5
times within 15 seconds.
(b) Historic DTC check
With the engine switch on (IG), press and hold the PTT button, and then press the VOL- button 5
(c) Clear historic DTC
With the engine switch on (IG), press and hold the PTT button, and then press the door unlock
switch of the power window regulator master switch 5 times within 15 seconds.
2. DTC CHECK / CLEAR (Using Techstream)

3. LED BLINKING PATTERN
When the system is in the diagnosis mode, the red and green LEDs on the mayday switch will blink
in the applicable pattern. The blinking pattern shown in the illustration is an example of DTC 3-2
and 4-3. DTCs will be output in numerical order. A set of DTC blinking patterns will be output twice.
4. EXIT DIAGNOSIS MODE

1. DESCRIPTION
HINT: -
Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the vehicle battery before replacing the mayday ECU
(together with mayday battery) or when just replacing the mayday battery.
- Historic DTCs may be set if the vehicle battery is not disconnected during ECU
installation/replacement.
- The mayday ECU estimates the remaining power of the mayday battery based on the mayday
battery usage time.
(a) LEXUS Link Operation Modes

(1) Factory Mode
This is the default mode from the factory. In this mode, a Japanese prompt will play when the
engine switch is turned on (IG). After any button is pressed, a voice prompt will play "System not
initialized, a call cannot be placed."
(2) Demo Mode (Dealer Mode)
A button sequence will initialize the mayday ECU from Factory Mode into Demo Mode. In Demo
Mode, pressing the SERVICES button will play the voice prompt "Hello and welcome to LEXUS
Link. For LEXUS Link services, contact a LEXUS Link advisor by pressing the SERVICES button
again. For additional information, visit us online at Lexus.com in the owner section or talk to your
LEXUS dealer." Pressing the SERVICES button again during this voice prompt will place an
enrollment call to the LEXUS Link call center.
HINT: -
See "MAYDAY ECU INITIALIZATION" for the button sequence to switch the ECU from Factory
Mode into Demo Mode.
- If the ECU will not switch from Factory Mode to Demo Mode, and there are no prompts played
when pushing any buttons, the ECU may have been inadvertently placed into an Engineering
Mode. In this case, perform this button sequence to switch the ECU back into Factory Mode. While
pressing and holding the VOL- button, press the SERVICES button 5 times within 15 seconds, then
release both buttons. The ECU will perform a Factory Mode Start Sequence as described under
"MAYDAY ECU INITIALIZATION".
(3) Active Mode
The LEXUS Link call center will configure this mode automatically after customer enrollment.
(4) De-active Mode
The LEXUS Link call center will configure this mode automatically after enrollment expires. The
SERVICES button will operate the same as in Demo Mode. Therefore, the customer can push it
twice to contact the LEXUS Link call center for re-enrollment.
2. MAYDAY ECU INITIALIZATION
HINT: This procedure is for switching a new mayday ECU from the Factory Mode into Demo Mode.
(a) Turn the engine switch from off to on (IG) (engine does not have to be running). (b) The mayday
ECU will perform the Factory Mode Start Sequence for approximately 30 seconds.
HINT: -
In Factory Mode, for each ignition cycle off to on (IG), or after checking or clearing DTCs, the ECU
will perform a start sequence that includes a Japanese prompt and flashing LEDs (approximately
30 seconds). Then the LEDs will turn off. Do not push any buttons during this start sequence.
- If there is a DTC detected during this Factory Mode Start Sequence, after the start sequence, the
red LED will remain on and a Japanese prompt will repeat 5 times. Do not press any buttons during
these prompts.

Applicability
^ Location of HDD Navigation information has changed on TIS, which is reflected in this TSIB.
Introduction
Lexus models equipped with a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation System contain a jukebox feature
that allows up to 2000 audio recordings to be transferred from their original CD media to the HDD
on-board the vehicle. Detailed information about the audio recordings is attached to each track at
the time of transfer. When each audio track is presented on the touch screen informational details
including Genre Artist Album and Title are presented. This detailed track information is stored on
the HDD in the Compact Disc Database or CDDB.
CDDB data updates will be released quarterly through the Technical Information System (TIS) and
can be uploaded to the vehicle using the Navigation Update Tool and Navigation Programs
Installer software. CDDB data only needs to be loaded onto the Navigation Update Tool once per
quarterly release. Vehicle CDDB updates are performed using the Navigation Update Tool.
^ Determine the current version of the CDDB data on the vehicle and installed on the Navigation
Update Tool.
^ Load the latest CDDB data onto the Navigation Update Tool.
^ Connect the Navigation Update Tool to the vehicle and update the vehicle to the latest release.
^ Update the CDDB data for any audio tracks transferred to the vehicle for which CDDB data was
not previously available.

While pressing and holding the VOL+ button, press and release the PHONE button 5 times within
15 seconds, then release the VOL+ button. When switched to Demo Mode, each LED will flash one
time then turn off (approximately 5 seconds).
(d) CONFIRMATION:
Confirm Demo Mode by pressing the SERVICES button and listening for the demo prompt "Hello
and welcome to LEXUS Link." (the engine switch must be on (IG) for the SERVICES button to
function). Additionally, after each ignition cycle off to on (IG), the LEDs will each flash one time
each. This start sequence takes approximately 5 seconds. If Demo Mode is not confirmed, repeat
the initialization procedure. HINT: -
Before troubleshooting a DTC, attempt to initialize the ECU into Demo Mode with the button
sequence. Then access DTCs and troubleshoot the ECU in Demo Mode. If necessary, DTCs can
still be accessed in Factory Mode. However, the 30 second Factory Mode Start Sequence (and the
Japanese prompt will repeat 5 times if a DTC is set) will occur after each ignition cycle off to on
(IG), and after each DTC check or clear. Do not press any buttons during this start sequence.
- A red LED continuously on in any mode indicates that there is a current DTC set. Refer to the
DTC chart.
- Do not push any buttons during any start sequences (LED flashing or voice prompts).
3. MAYDAY ECU REGISTRATION / ENROLLMENT
(a) Turn the engine switch on (IG) and wait for the 5 second LED flash start sequence. Press the
SERVICES button when the mayday ECU is set
normally and confirm that the following demo message is provided. "Hello and welcome to LEXUS
Link." If the message is not provided, perform the "MAYDAY ECU INITIALIZATION BUTTON
SEQUENCE" again.
(b) As the message states, press the SERVICES button again during the prompt to connect to the
LEXUS Link call center.
HINT: Usually this call will connect within 15 to 30 seconds. However, it may take several minutes
depending on cellular service in the area. A progression tone (i.e., beep) will be heard every 5
seconds to indicate that the connection attempt is in progress.
(c) A LEXUS Link call center advisor will answer and instruct the technician on how to
register/enroll the new mayday ECU. The ESN, STID and
VIN may be required at this time. HINT: -
If the LEXUS Link call center cannot be reached after several attempts using the SERVICES
button, or a cell tower message is heard, such as "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, your phone is not
active at this time.", call the LEXUS Link call center by pushing the EMERGENCY button.
- The LED flash start sequence (approximately 5 seconds) after ignition is cycled or after
checking/clearing DTCs remains present after enrollment. A green LED continuously on after this
sequence indicates that the LEXUS Link System is activity enrolled.
4. MAYDAY BATTERY REGISTRATION
HINT: -
This procedure is required to register a new mayday battery and clear DTC 6-1. This procedure
matches the new mayday battery with the new or used ECU.
- A new mayday ECU always requires a new mayday battery (used mayday batteries should not be
reused in a new ECU).
- If the new replacement ECU is packaged and already connected to the new mayday battery when
it arrives from the factory, and current DTC 6-1 is not set, do not perform the new mayday battery
registration (the battery is already registered to the ECU that it is connected to).
(a) Turn the engine switch from off to on (IG) and wait for the start up sequence of LED flashing to
complete. Do not press any buttons during this
start up sequence. (Note that Demo Mode and active enrolled ECUs have approximately a 5
second LED flashing start sequence. Factory Mode has approximately 30 seconds of LED flashing
with a Japanese voice prompt. Also note if a current DTC is set in Factory Mode after this start
sequence. This can be confirmed if the red LED remains on and an additional Japanese prompt
repeats 5 times.)
(b) BUTTON SEQUENCE:
Press and hold the PTT button while completing the following sequence of button presses. VOL+,
VOL+, VOL-, VOL-, VOL+, VOL+, VOL-, VOL-, VOL+, VOL+, VOL-, VOL- Release all buttons. This
button press sequence should be performed within 15 seconds.
(c) The system will then perform the same start sequence as described above. After this start
sequence completes, cycle the ignition to off then on
(IG). Wait for the start sequence to complete. The new mayday battery is now registered to the
mayday ECU and DTC 6-1 should be cleared. HINT: The mayday battery registration can be done
in any mode (Factory Mode, Demo Mode or activity enrolled).
5. MAYDAY BATTERY CONFIRMATION
(a) After replacement check: If the "MAYDAY BATTERY REGISTRATION BUTTON SEQUENCE"
has been completed, turn the engine
switch off and on (IG), wait for the start sequence described in the "MAYDAY BATTERY
REGISTRATION". Then check that current DTC 6-1 is cleared. NOTE: If the "MAYDAY BATTERY
REGISTRATION BUTTON SEQUENCE" has not been completed correctly, current DTC 6-1 will
continue to be detected even if the mayday battery is replaced with a new one. In this case, check
to be sure the old battery is removed and the new battery is installed. Then perform the "MAYDAY
BATTERY REGISTRATION BUTTON SEQUENCE" again.

As a result of the removal of the DCC fuses (No.1 and No.2) the driving position memory function
of the drivers seat will be inoperative due to loss of the seat position memory stored in the seat
ECU. Initialize the front memory seat ECU after installing the DCC fuses during Pre-Delivery
Service (PDS).
Drivers Seat Initialization Procedure
1. Cycle the ENGINE START STOP ignition switch to the IG-ON position.
2. Operate the vertical height switch to the lower side 3 times.
3. Within 10 seconds simultaneously operate the seatback angle switch to the rear side and the
vertical height switch to the lower side until a beep is

Introduction
Lexus models equipped with Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation require a Special Service Tool and
follow a unique process for updating map points of interest and system software. Instead of
individual DVDs installed into the vehicle all Map Data is uploaded directly to the HDD system.
Map Data will be released annually through the direct shipment of two Map Data DVDs to each
dealership service manager. The annual Map Data release must then be installed onto the
Navigation Update Tool. Individual map updates are then loaded into vehicles with special map
security keys. These keys are available through the normal parts ordering system. Keys are loaded
onto the Navigation Update Tool through a PC or TIS Techstream unit using software found on the
Technical Information System (TIS).
^ Identify the current version of Map Data on the vehicle and on the Navigation Update Tool.
^ Load Map Data onto the Navigation Update Tool.
^ Load map security key(s) onto the Navigation Update Tool.

Introduction
The Advanced Parking Guidance System assists the driver during parking and parallel parking by
displaying an image of the area behind the vehicle and controlling the steering wheel with the
vehicle in reverse.
When the DCC fuses are removed or battery terminal disconnected the power source to the
steering angle sensor is cut off. When the DCC fuses are reinstalled or the battery terminal is
reconnected the rear view monitor will operate but the steering angle sensor center position must
be set through system initialization before park assist will become operational.
Initialize the Advanced Parking Guidance System after installing the DCC fuses during Pre-delivery
Service (PDS).
Any time the battery terminal has been disconnected, the Advanced Parking Guidance System
MUST be initialized.

2. Check if the Advanced Parking Guidance System is operative by moving the shift lever to the "R"
position.

Loading Map Firmware onto Navigation Update Tool
NOTE
The Navigation Update Tool MUST have the latest "Navigation Program Installer" before
performing this TSIB. For installation procedure, refer to TSIB L-SB-0180-09, "HDD Navigation
Program Setup".
1. Turn on TIS Techstream.
2. Log into TIS.
3. Download the "Vehicle Navigation Software Update" from TIS.

C. Click on the Tools & Equipment tab.
E. Click on the applicable Generation 5 software version under Available Software Updates.
NOTE
If the TIS division is NOT set to Lexus (under the My Account area), the Navigation Update Tool
tab will NOT display. Navigation Update is a Lexus ONLY TIS option at this time.
NOTE
5. Connect the Navigation Update Tool to the PC using the USB cable.

6. Once the HDDCD Title Confirmation screen appears press OK.
NOTE
If album information still displays a time and a date as the album title, then the CD was released
after the current data was updated.
7. Allow data to update.
8. Press the Back Arrow.
Notice the selected album now has a title.

HDD Navigation Map Update Process

^ Applicability has been updated to include all 2010 model year Lexus vehicles.

Introduction
Lexus models equipped with Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation require a Special Service Tool and
follow a unique process for updating map points of interest and system software. Instead of
individual DVDs installed into the vehicle all Map Data is uploaded directly to the HDD system.
Map Data will be released annually through the direct shipment of two Map Data DVDs to each
dealership service manager. The annual Map Data release must then be installed onto the
Navigation Update Tool. Individual map updates are then loaded into vehicles with special map
security keys. These keys are available through the normal parts ordering system. Keys are loaded
onto the Navigation Update Tool through a PC or TIS Techstream unit using software found on the
Technical Information System (TIS).
^ Identify the current version of Map Data on the vehicle and on the Navigation Update Tool.
^ Load Map Data onto the Navigation Update Tool.
^ Load map security key(s) onto the Navigation Update Tool.
^ Connect the Navigation Update Tool to the vehicle and update the Map/System Data to the latest
version.

to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait

(a) Description
LEXUS Link is a consumer-based wireless voice and data service for automotive applications,
more broadly known as telematics. LEXUS Link is a combination of an on-board dedicated cellular
phone, GPS (Global Positioning System), software, hardware, and a remote support call center.
The LEXUS Link system is designed to work anywhere in the continental U.S., Hawaii, and Canada
where GPS and cellular services are available.
