Checklist - Combined loading calculations

In order to determine the correct glass type and thickness that complies with the requirements of section K of
the Building Regulations for use in full height barriers, all the following information is required by Guardian
Technical Advisory Centre.

Company…………………………………………………………………………….. Tel. Number…….…………………………….

Contact name……………………………………..………………………………. Email……………………………………………..
Project name……………….………..……………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Project location………………………………….................................... Project m² (approx.)………………………
Glazing / IGU supplier…………………………………………………………………….................................................

1. The dimensions of the largest pane (W x H) ………..……mm X ………..…… mm.

2. The number of supported edges (tick as appropriate)

If other than four edge support, please give further details

of support in the box below or with additional documents.

3. The type of glazing. (tick as appropriate)

Single Glazed: -

Double Glazed: -

Triple Glazed: -

4. Proposed glass thicknesses and type.

Outer pane …….……… mm Glass type………………………………………………

Middle pane …….……… mm Glass type………………………………………………

Inner pane …….……… mm Glass type………………………………………………

5. If the above configuration contains a laminate pane, please define the Young’s Modulus of the

interlayer…………….N/mm²

(This is determined by understanding the loading duration and the likely operating temperature. If this figure
is unknown a conservative figure of 0.3N/mm² will be used)

6. The inclination of the glazing from horizontal……………….°

7. The barrier loading. Applicable line load class ….…………. N/m.

(As per BS 6180-2011 for UK, or I.S. EN 1991-1-1:2002/NA:2013 for IRE)

Distance of the bottom edge of glass from impact side finished floor level (Detail as appropriate)

Above f.f.l. ……….…….…. mm. OR Below f.f.l. …………..……. mm.

8. The fully factored wind pressure load ….…………. N/m².

9. The fully factored wind suction load ….…………. N/m².

10. The fully factored snow load ….…………. N/m². (Snow loads not applicable if >60° from horizontal)

11. The fully factored maintenance load ….…………. N. (will be applied as 100mm x 100mm square)

12. Calculation and Software Assumptions:

Unless otherwise requested, the calculation approach will be in accordance with the guidance published in
CWCT TU14.

Please state whether you require variances from the standard safety factors employed in the calculations
which are as per EN1990.

In the absence of UK (or European) standard or guidance document on the correct application of climatic
loads, the figures used are taken as those given in the DIN 18008 standard.

13. Limits for deflection and stress

Unless otherwise requested, the stress limit used will be in accordance with prEN16612-1.

Unless otherwise requested, the deflection limit will be calculated based on L/65 (with L being the length
of the shortest side). This is as per prEN16612-1.

If alternative limitations are required, please state on this form before calculations are made to avoid
