Safe Working Procedure


Band saw

Process: Operation of the Band saw copper tubes.

SCOPE:

The machine is used to cut copper tubes.

Hazard Identification:

1. Repetitive type back injuries.


2. Hand injuries.
3. Noise induced hearing loss.
4. Cutting injuries (could amputate).
5. Serious hand injuries.
Training Required:

 Risk assessment
 Safe working procedure

Control/Protective Measures:

In order to ensure that operators can safely use the Band Saw the following measure needs to
ensure you have the following

• Gloves
• Overalls
• Safety Glasses
Emergency Procedures:

In the event of an injury (no matter how small it is), stop working and report the injury to:

 First Aider
 Supervisor and the
 SHEQ Manager

Step by Step Procedure of the Process

1. Turn on the machine at the control panel


2. Ensure that you keep your hands away from the blade
3. For smaller pipes ensure you use a push stick
4. Make sure that you position yourself on the right-hand side of the machine not on in
the middle
5. Turn off machine when not in use
General Safety Operating Rules

1. Only trained operators are allowed to use the machine


2. Know the emergency stop/shut-down procedure of the machine
3. Inspect the machine prior to each operating shift to ensure that:
 Points of operation and surrounding areas are clean of debris and other
hazards
 Shields and guards are in place (only if applicable)
 Machine components are in good working condition

4. Do not operate machine that is damaged.


5. Do not attempt to override safety features on the machine.
6. Do not engage in horseplay while operating the machine.
7. Do not eat or drink while operating the machine.
8. Ensure good housekeeping
9. Report near misses to your supervisor as well as SHEQ Coordinator
