“A patient-centered approach should enable patients to


exercise their rights and fulfill their responsibilities with
transparency, respect and dignity, by giving due consideration
to their values and needs.” (World Health Organization.)

The need for patient-centered approach for TB care is backed


up by evidence. (See NTP e-book). It is crucial to achieving
universal access to quality TB services for all people, prevent
suffering and death from TB and to cut transmission and
achieve the milestones and target of the End TB Strategy and
Sustainable Development Goals.

Patient-centered care is carried out on standard 9 of the


International Standards for Tuberculosis Care. It is governed
by policies and protocols.
