    Use this checklist to review the current status of your research into your investment idea.

    Client

    What is your client looking for?

    Strategy
    Recent successes and failures (especially in relation to you or your company)
    Mood (affected by external events and trends)

    Company

    Have you covered all the key aspects of the company’s performance?

    Its accounts
    Its products and services
    Its management
    Its selling practices
    How well it manages its own business
    Its relations with customers and suppliers
    Its R&D capacity

    Context

    Think about four contextual factors.

    Industry

    Customers
    Competitors
    The international picture
    The emerging names and new entrants
    New trends, products, innovation
    Who is in trouble and why

    Government

    Political developments
    Power shifts
    New regulations
    The international political dimension

    Market

    What’s the current majority position?


    Where are the minority reports?
    Who is right and who is wrong?
    Why?
    How come you know better than the market?

    Risk

    economic risks
    liquidity risks
    political, legal, and environmental risks
    business and management risks
    financial risks
