to nouns that have already been mentioned.

The first three have been done for you.

Verbs

A verb is a doing or a being word. For example: like, am, looks, write, read.

Read this passage and underline all the verbs:

In English today Ms Dale wrote our spelling on the board. We all wrote it
down, and we will learn the words for homework this week. We will all get ten
out of ten on Friday!

Verbs are used in different tenses, so we know whether something happened

in the past, or it is happening now, or it will happen in the future. So we would
write today I go to school, yesterday I went to school and tomorrow I will go to
school. Sometimes it is easy to mix these up. Change the following passage
to make it into a correct diary entry. As a diary entry, everything should be in
the past.

Dear Diary
Today is a great day. I play rugby with my friends and Mr Moyes, the Sports
teacher, sees me. He calls me over and tells me I am the best rugby player
of my age he has ever seen. He thinks that I am so good I should play for
Tamaki College Firsts on Saturday. I am very happy and run home to tell my
Mum and Dad.
