-ARAZZO-
Arazzo is the Italian word for ‘tapestry,’ and the two Mosaic designs and stitch textures included in this shawl resemble
the look of a woven fabric or a tapestry. Arazzo is a rectangular shawl that is knitted flat in one piece and is composed
of repeating sections of Seed Stitch, Woven Stitch, and two-color Mosaic knitting. You’ll need five different colors of
contrasting yarn for this beautiful, repeating, symmetrical pattern, and instructions are included to customize both the
length and width. Additionally, each row is written out in the Mosaic sections, so you don’t need to remember Mosaic
knitting “rules" to complete those stitch patterns.

• This rectangular shawl is knitted flat in one piece and is composed of repeating sections of Seed
Stitch, Woven Stitch, and two-color Mosaic knitting. You’ll need five different colors of yarn for this
pattern.
• Other than the Seed Stitch rows, each row includes a 9-stitch Woven Stitch border on both the
right and left sides. You may wish to place optional stitch markers to visually mark these borders.
• If you would like to modify the overall length of this shawl, you can knit more or fewer repeats of
the stitch patterns in any of the sections; however, be sure to make these modifications on both
halves of the shawl in order to maintain its symmetry. If you would like to modify the width, you
can increase or decrease the number of stitches you cast on in multiples of 20 + 21 stitches.
• At times, you’ll work with two colors of yarn at the same time. You can carry your nonworking yarn
up the side or back until you’re instructed to break the yarn.
• In almost all sections, you’ll be instructed to slip stitches. All stitches are slipped purlwise. Be sure
to note whether the yarn needs to be held to the back or the front when you’re slipping these
stitches. In the Mosaic knitting sections, stitches are slipped with yarn in back on right-side rows
and with yarn in front on wrong-side rows.
• Because Mosaic knitting benefits greatly from blocking to even out the tension and bring out the
overall design, you’ll want to block your finished shawl for the best effect. If using high contrast
colors like those in the Roasted Hues Buttery Sport kit, I recommend steam blocking or spritz
blocking your shawl, rather than wet blocking it.
• Finally, be sure to check your gauge against mine to ensure that you have enough yarn to
complete the pattern.

With C1, BO all stitches using your preferred bind-off method. Because Mosaic knitting benefits
greatly from blocking to even out the tension and bring out the overall design, you’ll want to block
your finished shawl for the best effect. If using high contrast colors like those in the Roasted Hues
Buttery Sport kit, I recommend steam blocking or spritz blocking your shawl, rather than wet
blocking it.
For both methods, pin your shawl flat to your desired dimensions. For steam blocking, set an iron to
its steam setting, and pass the iron a couple of inches above your pinned shawl, while pressing the
steam button. Make sure to apply the steam to all sections of your shawl. Allow to air dry before
removing the pins. For spritz blocking, use a spray bottle filled with clean water, and spray your
shawl to dampen it without fully soaking it. Allow to air dry before removing the pins.
Note: When working Two-Color Mosaic Band 3, work Row 30 with C2.
Note: When working Two-Color Mosaic Band 4, work Row 30 with C1.
