Design Education Framework

In the previous lecture a design education framework was included to


highlights principles of Intuition, human experience and a awareness for
design. This lecture focus on everyday life pattern, in an attempt to
improve the qualities presented in this framework.

1 Intuition allows us to prevent the trap of linear thinking, to invent the


new, understand emotions, test combinations that have no logical
means, inject surprise and spontaneity.

3 Interior Designers are in the position to create a better world. In the


best sense, design intuition encompasses empathy, emotional
intelligence, cultural literacy, and simple curiosity to create a better
experience for the occupant.

Interior Designers should not develop insular thinking. Understand

the importance of design by linking design with purpose to create a
holistic interior and cultural experience.
Patterns and routine in daily life

Question: Do you have a daily routine?

• Identify and list activities that you consider as daily routine

• Do you have activities that you execute daily?

• How did it happen that these activities became part of your


daily activity?

• Do these activities form part of your life since you were a


child or were they adopted at a later stage of you life?

• Do you have patterns that you will consider as “good” or


“bad” habits.

• Does the COVID-19 lockdown impact on your daily life?

Objects in our daily life

Reflect on this imagine and identify objects/tools/ furniture/


structure/ transport mechanisms that is required to execute your
daily life patterns

Observation:

• Identify the objects that contribute to a meaningful daily


existence.

• Which objects are essential and it is very difficult to have a


productive weekday without the object? Technology has a
significant impact on our life.

• Which resources are required to execute daily activities. What is


the contribution of water, energy, food and shelter in your daily
routine?

associations. Gender therefore impacts on the
activities that you engage with on a daily basis.
