mixtures
1.2 The Standard now allows the use of a 1 pound cylinder with a CGA No. 600 connection as well as 20
pound propane cylinders and the disposable propane, butane, and propane-butane mixtures in UL
147B cylinders. The clause also now provides coverage to allow for regulated and non-regulated outlet
pressure.

4.3.1 Integral cylinder mounting and retention coverage is added for cylinders larger than 1 pound
incorporated in an appliance incorporating wheels.
4.3.2 Integral mounting and retention coverage added for an appliance that does not incorporate wheels
when a cylinder larger than 1 pound is incorporated in an appliance. Mounting and retention means is
not required if an appliance incorporates an integral propane cylinder less than 1 pound.
4.4.1-6 New section “Remote Propane Gas Supply Cylinder Systems” added to provide coverage for remote
cylinders.
4.5.1-18 New section “Propane Gas Cylinder Connection Devices” added to provide coverage for propane gas
cylinder connection devices.
4.6.1-5 New section “Enclosures for self-contained propane gas supply systems” added to provide coverage
for cylinder enclosures.
4.16.7 Added requirement for seat and external leakage for manually operated gas valves when used when
unregulated propane, unregulated butane, unregulated propane-butane mixtures or when regulated.
4.16.8 Added burst strength requirements for manually operated gas valve bodies.

4.16.9 Added cycling leakage requirements for manually operated gas valve bodies.

4.16.10 Added turning torque requirements for manually operated gas valve bodies.

4.16.11 Provided exception of manually operated valves complying with the Standard for Manually Operated
Gas Valves for Appliances, Appliance Connector Valves, and Hose End Valves, ANSI Z21.15 • CSA 9.1
do not need to comply with clauses 4.16.7 through 4.16.10
4.17.1 Allows for both regulated and unregulated outlet pressure.

4.17.2 Added requirements regarding how to attach the inlet of the pressure regulator to a CGA No. 791
Cylinder Connection Device, a CGA No. 810 Cylinder Connection Device, or a CGA No. 600 Cylinder
Connection Device. The clause also specifies appliances for use with butane and/or propane-butane
mixtures, the cylinder connection devices do not need to be a CGA No. 600 if the appliance is for use
with an UL 147B cylinder.

Clause(s) Changes
4.17.3 Appliances for connection to a propane gas supply system with a nominal water capacity greater than
1 pound must be equipped with a pressure regulator complying with the Standard for Pressure
Regulating Valves for LP Gas, UL 144.
4.17.4 A gas pressure regulator incorporating a manual valve and or burner/control function shall
incorporate a marked “OFF” position and indicate direction of rotation.
4.17.5 Burner control devices that have a designated light position shall be marked.

4.17.6 Gas pressure regulators operating at supply pressures of ½ psi or less must be Certified to ANSI Z21.18
/ CSA 6.3
4.17.7 The clause requires a portable refrigerator for use with regulated pressure to be supplied with a
regulator that is marked with the identifying marking of the regulator
4.17.8 The pressure regulator must be of the fixed (non-adjustable) type.

4.17.9 Gas pressure regulators for use with propane, butane or when used with propane/butane mixtures
shall be investigated for external leakage. Applicable to gas pressure regulators that are not Certified
to either ANSI Z21.18 / CSA 6.3 or UL 144.
4.17.10 Clause specifies burst strength for a body of a gas pressure regulator. Applicable to gas pressure
regulators that are not Certified to either ANSI Z21.18 / CSA 6.3 or UL 144.
4.17.11 A regulator shall have a predictable outlet pressure. Applicable to gas pressure regulators that are not
Certified to either ANSI Z21.18 / CSA 6.3 or UL 144.
4.24.1 The printed instructions accompanying the product must bear the symbol of the organization for
compliance with this Standard to provide verification for inspectors that the appliance and

outdoors.
4.25.2n Requires a marking on the appliance to identify the appliance gas pressure regulator that was supplied
with the appliance.
4.25.6a A new marking requirement which shows the manufacturer’s recommended position of use of an lp
cylinder, including dimensions of the appliance, the appliance’s supply cylinder location and hose
routing, and a minimum warning label advising the end user of the potential hazard of placing the
