Cardiology: the hospital department that specializes in the treatment of the heart and heart
diseases. It investigates and treats all heart problems

Dermatology: the hospital department that specializes in the treatment of the skin and skin
diseases. It cares for everything from warts to skin cancer.

Emergency: treats patients in life-threatening condition.

Obstetrics: the hospital department that treats women and unborn children during pregnancy.
It cares for women through all stages of pregnancy.

Orthopedics : the hospital department that specializes in the treatment of bones and muscles.
It provides bone and joint care.

Pediatrics : the hospital department that specializes in the treatment of children. It provides
healthcare from birth to adulthood

Radiology: creates X-rays and CT scans for all departments .

Surgery: performs everything from routine procedures to organ transplants

Lesson 2: Vocabulary

anesthesiologist: a doctor who renders patients unconscious or prevents them from feeling
pain

general practitioner: a doctor who provides many kinds of care to adults and children

lab technician: a medical professional who works with samples in a laboratory

nurse: a medical professional who helps a doctor and cares for patients

pharmacist: a person who fills prescriptions and gives medicine

surgeon: a physician who specializes in surgery

obstetrician: a physician specializing in obstetrics

Lesson 3: Vocabulary

bedpan: a shallow pan for use as a toilet by a person forced to stay in bed

biohazard waste container: a box for the storage and disposal of dangerous medical waste

gauze: a cotton fabric used to cover wounds or surgical incisions

gown: a long robe worn by a hospital patient

sharps container: a box for the storing of used needles and other sharp medical instruments
before disposal

syringe: a device used for injecting liquids into the body
