The document summarizes the functional analysis and behavioral assessment of children and adolescents with mental disorders. It discusses two groups, behavior analysts and behavior therapists, that use applied behavior analysis and behavior therapy to understand why disorders develop and evaluate treatment effects. The document also covers the process of behavioral assessment to diagnose and treat disorders in children and adolescents.

Abstract
1. Provides a summary of scientific behaviors of 2 groups of practitioners who share
many of the assumptions of the paradigms of applied behavior analysis and behavior therapy. Dr. Paniagua makes the effort to answer the questions: "Why do children and adolescents develop mental disorders?", "Which measurement strategies are available to assess these disorders?" and "Which experimental approach should be used to evaluate the effects of treatment in the management of these disorders?" These groups are known as behavior analysts and behavior therapists depending on whether the group emphasizes only environmental variables in the explanation and measurement of behavior (the behavior analysis) or emphasizes both environmental and organismic variables (the behavior therapists). Next, the process of behavioral assessment in diagnosis and treatment, with emphasis on child and adolescent disorders is discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)
