During Internship in GNN News channel Faisalabad what I did?
 Tickers
News tickers, also known as news crawls or news tickers, are a common feature in
television news broadcasts, websites, and other media platforms. They are
horizontal, continuously scrolling bars that display short snippets of news or
headlines, usually at the bottom of the screen. News tickers provide up-to-date
information, breaking news, and other important updates in real-time, allowing
viewers or readers to stay informed about the latest developments while other
content is being presented.
Writing news tickers requires concise and clear language due to their limited space
and the fast-paced nature of their display. Here are some tips on how to write
effective news tickers:
Keep it brief:
News tickers have limited space, so each item should be short and to the point.
Aim for a maximum of one or two lines of text.
Focus on the main points
Highlight the key information in the news item. Include the who, what, when,
where, and why, if possible.
Use simple language:
Avoid jargon or complex terminology. The language should be easily
understandable for a broad audience.
Be accurate:
Ensure that the information displayed is factual and verified. Mistakes can spread
quickly, so double-check before publishing.
Prioritize breaking news:
If you have multiple news items, prioritize the most important or breaking news at
the top of the ticker.
Update regularly:
As new information becomes available, update the ticker to keep the audience
informed of the latest developments.
Consider visual presentation:
Pay attention to font size, color, and contrast to ensure the ticker is readable on
different devices and backgrounds.
Time-sensitive information: If the news item has a specific time frame, indicate it.
For example, "Breaking News: Earthquake hits California - 10 AM PST."
Avoid sensationalism:
Stick to factual reporting and avoid exaggeration or sensational language.
Check for typos:
Errors can happen, but do your best to avoid spelling or grammatical mistakes in
the ticker.
Also must consider 5Ws 1H
What: Clearly state the central event or incident that the news ticker is reporting.
Focus on the key action or development.
When: Provide the time frame or timestamp for when the event occurred or when
the news was reported. This helps the audience understand the relevance and
recency of the information.
Where: Indicate the location where the event took place. This could be a specific
city, region, country, or even a specific venue, depending on the context.
Why: Offer a brief explanation of the reasons or causes behind the event.
Depending on the complexity of the news item, this might be challenging to
convey in just a few words, but try to provide essential context.
Who: Identify the main individuals or groups involved in the news item. This
could be people, organizations, or entities that play a significant role in the story.
How: If possible, include a brief description of how the event happened or how it is
being addressed. This might not always be applicable, especially in fast-breaking
news, but if relevant, it can add valuable information.
Ticker Practice
 As Live
As Live is a term used in the television and media industry to refer to content that
has been pre-recorded, but it is presented to the audience as if it were happening
live. This allows broadcasters to provide the look and feel of a live broadcast while
still having the ability to edit and polish the material beforehand. As Live is
commonly used in various types of television programming, including news,
sports, talk shows, and live events coverage.
To create an As Live segment, follow these general steps:
Pre-recording:
Record the content in advance, either in a studio or on-location, just like you would
for any pre-produced video.
Non-Linear Editing:
After recording, use non-linear editing software to edit the content. This step
allows you to refine the material, cut out any mistakes or unwanted portions, and
improve the overall quality of the segment.
Seamless Presentation:
Plan the presentation carefully to make the pre-recorded content appear live. Avoid
references to specific times or events that would contradict the illusion of a live
broadcast. For example, do not mention that it's pre-recorded or avoid using
phrases like "earlier today" or "a few hours ago."
Real-time Updates (Optional):
Depending on the nature of the content, you may include live elements to enhance
the sense of immediacy. This could include live commentary, viewer interaction
through social media, or real-time updates on breaking news, if relevant.
Broadcasting:
When it's time to air the As Live segment, schedule it within the program as if it
were a live broadcast. Ensure that the transition to and from the As Live segment is
seamless to maintain the illusion.
Transparency:
Be transparent with your audience and clearly indicate when a segment is pre-
recorded. This helps maintain trust and integrity in news reporting and media
content.
Examples of As Live segments could include pre-recorded interviews, sports
events with slight delays, or news reports on past events that are presented as if
they were happening in real-time.
Remember that As Live segments should aim to deliver accurate information and
maintain the same standards of quality and journalistic integrity as live broadcasts.
The flexibility of editing should not be used to misrepresent events or manipulate
the context of the content. Transparency and honesty with the audience are
essential for a successful As Live presentation.
As Live Practice
 On Camera (OC)
Journalists or reporters who provide news updates or present stories directly in
front of the camera are considered to be on-camera reporters. They deliver
information, often from the scene of an event or at a news studio, while being
visible to the viewers.
When writing a script or production notes for on-camera (OC) segments in a video
production, it's essential to provide clear instructions and details to ensure a smooth
and successful shoot. Here are some guidelines on how to write for on-camera
scenes:
Scene Description:
Begin by describing the setting and context of the on-camera scene. Include details
about the location, time of day, and any relevant props or set elements.
Character/Interviewee Introductions:
Clearly introduce each on-camera talent or interviewee with their name and role
(e.g., "Reporter: John Smith" or "Interviewee: Mary Johnson"). This helps the
production team and ensures the correct identification of individuals during
editing.
Dialogue and Script:
Provide the dialogue and script for the on-camera talent. Write their lines verbatim
or provide a general outline of the key points they should cover. Be clear about the
tone, style, and manner of delivery for each line.
Camera Angles and Movements:
Indicate any specific camera angles or movements that are essential for capturing
the scene. This could include instructions for close-ups, wide shots, or camera
movements during the on-camera performance.
Visual Cues:
If there are specific actions or gestures that the on-camera talent needs to perform,
include them in the script or provide visual cues in the production notes.
Timecodes (Optional):
For longer recordings or interviews, you can include timecodes to indicate when
certain segments or lines should be delivered. Timecodes can help with editing and
post-production processes.
Direction for Delivery:
Provide direction on how you want the on-camera talent to deliver their lines. For
example, specify whether you want them to speak directly to the camera or to
another person off-camera.
Rehearsals and Takes:
If multiple takes or rehearsals are needed, mention it in the script or production
notes. This ensures that the production team knows how much time to allocate for
each segment.
Visual and Audio Cues (Optional):
If there are specific visual or audio elements, such as graphics, sound effects, or
music, that need to be synchronized with the on-camera performance, include those
cues in the script or production notes.
OC Practice
 Beat system
The "news beat system" is a common organizational structure used in newsrooms
to cover various topics or areas of interest. Each "beat" refers to a specific subject
or area that reporters are assigned to cover extensively. This system helps news
organizations ensure comprehensive and consistent coverage of a wide range of
topics.
Reporters who are assigned to a specific beat focus on gathering news, conducting
in-depth research, and building sources within that particular area. They become
subject matter experts in their beats, allowing them to provide insightful and
accurate reporting on those topics. Here are some common types of news beats:
Political Beat:
Reporters covering the political beat focus on government activities, elections,
legislative processes, and political figures at local, national, or international levels.
Crime and Justice Beat:
This beat involves reporting on crime-related incidents, law enforcement, courts,
legal issues, and criminal justice policies.
Business and Economy Beat:
Reporters on this beat cover business news, financial markets, economic indicators,
corporate developments, and trends in the economy.
Health and Science Beat:
This beat involves reporting on health-related topics, medical research, scientific
discoveries, public health issues, and advancements in technology and science.
Education Beat:
Reporters covering education focus on schools, educational policies, student
issues, and developments in the education system.
Sports Beat:
This beat involves reporting on various sports events, athletes, teams, sports
industry, and sports-related issues.
Entertainment Beat:
Reporters on the entertainment beat cover the entertainment industry, celebrities,
movies, music, television, and cultural events.
Environmental Beat:
This beat involves reporting on environmental issues, climate change, conservation
efforts, and sustainability.
Technology Beat:
Reporters covering the technology beat focus on technology news, innovations,
startups, gadgets, and developments in the tech industry.
Feature and Human Interest Beat:
This beat involves covering human interest stories, profiles of interesting
individuals, and in-depth features on various topics.
Local News Beat:
Reporters on the local news beat cover news and events specific to a particular
city, town, or region.
International Affairs Beat:
This beat involves reporting on international news, global conflicts, diplomatic
relations, and international events.
