Summer Training 2
Summer Training 2
(Terakraft Cooperate Resources Ltd & Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, Benue State
University, Makurdi)
Introduction
The growing need for the nation’s teeming youths (Benue youths inclusive) and other categories
of individuals to acquire entrepreneurial and vocational skills cannot be overemphasized. The
reasons are quite obvious. Worthy of mention is the high rate of unemployment and
underemployment among youths, partly due to lack of essential entrepreneurial/vocational skills.
As at the year 2020, the youth unemployment rate as reported by National Bureau of Statistics
(NBS) jumped from 40.80% to 53.40% in the second quarter (Q2). It was further estimated that
this would have risen to 60% in the last quarter of the period under review. Off course, one needs
no soothsayer to be able to discern that the situation is growing worst, due to the current economic
down turn in Nigeria. The consequence of this ugly trend can be traceable to the increase or
perhaps, the proliferation of armed robbery gang, banditry, kidnapping, prostitution, and so many
other social vices that currently ravages Benue State and the country at large. To curb or reduce
this unpleasant situation, Terakraft Cooperate Resources Limited is set to provide an intervention
by seeking to partner with the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, Benue State University, Makurdi
in floating an entrepreneurial/vocational skill training programme for all categories of individuals
(i.e literate, semi-literate and illiterate) irrespective of gender, religion, tribe, location, age etc.

learners early enough to hands-on skills with the view to make them become aware of the diverse
vocational skills options available to them as they progress in life. This programme will be 100%
hands-on and will make up for the too much academic nature of the vocational aptitude subject
which these set of pupils offer in school. See Appendix B for list of available skills for “Catch them
Young”.
The tertiary skill programme component shall focus on individuals who are attending tertiary
institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, etc.) as well as those of them whom
must have graduated and are awaiting results or National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). They will
be provided with sufficient entrepreneurial/vocational skills in their areas of choice from the list
of available skills. See Appendix A for list of available skills.

5. Summer Skills Programme
The summer skills programme will provide young men and women with the opportunity to develop
core vocational skills through individual and dynamic group activities. The programme is
specifically designed for primary school pupils and secondary school students during their long
vocation (Summer holiday’s period). Rather than engaging these category of students in academic
lessons during the vacation, parents/guardians can send their wards to acquire a vocational skill of
