EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF

PROPOSED PARTNERSHIP FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL AND VOCATIONAL SKILL

TRAINING PROGRAMME

Proposed Partnership Between:

(Terakraft Cooperate Resources Ltd & Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, Benue State

University, Makurdi)

Introduction
The growing need for the nation’s teeming youths (Benue youths inclusive) and other categories
of individuals to acquire entrepreneurial and vocational skills cannot be overemphasized. The
reasons are quite obvious. Worthy of mention is the high rate of unemployment and
underemployment among youths, partly due to lack of essential entrepreneurial/vocational skills.
As at the year 2020, the youth unemployment rate as reported by National Bureau of Statistics
(NBS) jumped from 40.80% to 53.40% in the second quarter (Q2). It was further estimated that
this would have risen to 60% in the last quarter of the period under review. Off course, one needs
no soothsayer to be able to discern that the situation is growing worst, due to the current economic
down turn in Nigeria. The consequence of this ugly trend can be traceable to the increase or
perhaps, the proliferation of armed robbery gang, banditry, kidnapping, prostitution, and so many
other social vices that currently ravages Benue State and the country at large. To curb or reduce
this unpleasant situation, Terakraft Cooperate Resources Limited is set to provide an intervention
by seeking to partner with the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, Benue State University, Makurdi
in floating an entrepreneurial/vocational skill training programme for all categories of individuals
(i.e literate, semi-literate and illiterate) irrespective of gender, religion, tribe, location, age etc.

General Objectives of the Training Programme

The overall objective of the training programme is to provide the general public with flexible
opportunities to acquire contemporary practical skills in diverse vocational areas as well as learn
basic business management skills on how to start and nurture small and medium scale enterprises.
The following are therefore the specific objectives of the skills training programme:
1. Provide practical skills/knowledge to the individuals in their chosen vocational skill areas.

1
2. Impart basic entrepreneurial knowledge that will in turn arm the individuals with the
needed awareness and skills to enable them become economically, socially and politically
useful to themselves and the larger society.
3. Provide the general public with the needed awareness of available
vocational/entrepreneurial skills options
4. Re-skilled interested individuals in the vocational skill areas of their choice

How this Programme will solve the Problem

Interested individuals will be trained adequately in various vocational skill areas of their interest
and choice. A list of all the available skill areas is contained in ‘Appendix A’. The individuals
will be provided with the actual skill/knowledge needed to succeed in their chosen skill area. The
intervention will further provide the persons with first-hand knowledge on contemporary
entrepreneurship skills which basically entails identifying ones potentials, risk taking, sourcing for
capital and effective management of small to medium scale enterprises.

Long term Impact of this Programme

This training programme will cater for the unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled individuals of all
categories in the society. By so doing, a vast majority of the youths, teens, elderly if not all will be
sufficiently armed with saleable skills that will make them become useful to themselves and their
larger community by engaging in productive ventures. This will further reduce the level of youth
participation in crimes and other social vices that currently bedeviled the society.

Scope of the Programme

The scope of the training programme will include:

in planning their business.
