How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply.

☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

x☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

x☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their

learning and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached
by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation:

After reading several different fractured fairy tales throughout the weeks with the class I will
announce the project. Students will pick their favorite two fairy tales that we read that are
based on the same story (The original fairy tale and the fractured fairy tale).
Students will create a podcast comparing the two stories. They will point out what is similar
first, then the differences, capturing the overall main events and the moral of each story.
Students will then discuss which fairy tale they preferred more and why.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:

I will do this by breaking this project into several days and small groups. During center time
on day one when the students meet with the teacher, they will write their scripts. On day two
and three they will make their podcast and on day four they will finish creating it. On day five
they will show our podcasts to fellow students. Each day we can summarize their goal for
that day to ensure students are staying on task. Having the students work with the teacher
and having the technology station in a small group will help limit distraction and focus on
learning goals. It will also ensure that students will have the individual help they need from
the teacher while working with new technology.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This technology can support all students in my classroom. If I have students who are ESOL we
will make sure to use subtitles appropriate for their native language and allow for assistance
in creating the English script or allow for a script in their home language and turn on English
subtitles. If I have students who struggle with their computers, I can get assistive
technologies so they can continue to participate. By creating a podcast students will not only
be able to read the words, but also be able to hear students reading the words to them.
Students can choose what story they want to make their podcast about so that they feel
represented and engaged and they get to create their own design for their PowerPoint to
keep them engaged and keep their action and expression their own.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

I think that they will learn the most in their technology standards, I think it’s a great way for
students to really focus on one story and really understand and work on comparing stories.
It’s great to talk about different morals of the story as well as different story lines that
different perspectives may cause.
