UNDERSTAND

Electric plug/socket/switch that carries electricity are just one of the most common devices that
makes everyday living easy, convenient, and enjoyable. Even though we use electricity every day,
there is a need to use it safely specially in doing, handling electrical gadgets, because Electricity is
both a friend and a killer. It can kill when it is not used properly.

What is Electricity?

Electricity is used in running different electrical appliances in


our homes. They make living easy and comfortable.

Safety Rules and Precaution in Using Electricity

The following are the common safety Precautions and Practices.


1. Always keep your hands dry when working with wires, switches, and any electrical connection

2. Do not overload. Decrease the load of your connection to avoid short circuits which can cause
fire.

3. Keep away combustible materials like clothes, rugs, papers and chemical near electrical
wirings or connections.

4. Do not inset pieces of metal like coins in fuse box.

5. Always keep floors dry.

6. Report broken bulbs or dangling electrical wirings immediately to the authority.

LET’S PRACTICE

Now, let’s try to check what you have learn so far.

Direction : Draw a happy face before each item that suggests safety precautions when
using electricity. And a sad face for not in the space provided for.

________2. Switch on the electric oven, stove and other appliances even though your body is wet.
________3. Leave the rice cooker on warm even the rice is already cooked the whole day.
________4. Install sockets in the bathroom.
________5. Ensure that switches are turned off before going out leaving the room unattended.
________6. Leave the television switched on from morning until evening.
________7. Iron your clothes every day before going to school.
________8. Leaving defective, faulty wirings open used.
________9. Always use proper equipment while working on any electrical circuit.
________10. Keep off inflammable materials out of reach by the children.

REMEMBER

KEY POINTS

 Electricity should be used properly.

 Switch off an electric appliance when not in use. Switching off stop the flow of
electricity.
 We should always wear dry rubber slippers when handling an electrical appliance.
Rubber slippers prevent current to pass through our body.
 Our body should be kept dry to avoid being electrocuted.
