FLUITRONIC – MRL
INNOVATION IN GREEN LIFT TECHNOLOGY

PAGE 2
GREEN CONCEPT
Many elevator manufacturers have
been speaking about ecology as a
central theme for quite some time
already. However, they have often
focused on the motor power while
neglecting other very important
factors.

When comparing electric and

hydraulic systems, we must consider
both the high amount of energy
needed to manufacture the electric
systems and the life cycle of the same.
Generally, this is much more
favorable for hydraulic systems.

Also, an important point is that

hydraulic elevators do not consume
energy when going down, while
electric ones generally consume more
energy when in standby (wait time
before being called).

Since there is no counterweight, the

total weight of hydraulic elevators is
lower (about 40-60% less than that of
electric systems), which means less
energy consumption is needed to
manufacture and transport them.
Hydraulic lifts do not use OVF drives
used in traction lifts which has an
average life cycle of 8-10 years after
which they become obsolete requiring
replacement. Therefore, hydraulic lifts
are more environmentally friendly.
PAGE 3
ADVANTAGES OF HYDRAULIC COMPARED WITH TRACTION LIFTS

Lesser Installation Time

Because there is no counterweight in

hydraulic lifts, the installation period is
greatly reduced. With ideal site
conditions, a lift can be installed in just
a week as opposed to a month
required for traction lifts.

Lower Maintenance Costs

Because hydraulic lifts do not require

VVVF drives and associated control
electronics to integrate the elevators
with the drive units, the maintenance
cost is greatly reduced whilst ensuring
reliability and lower down times. The
average life of the Drive unit is 8-10
years, during which period they
become obsolete. These costs to
replace the Drive and the associated
components in order to continue to
have uninterrupted elevator operation Traction Lift OVF Drive
is avoided in hydraulic elevators .

TOTAL LIFE COST

And the most important major

advantage of GMV hydraulic lifts is the
advantage of lower costs when
considering the TOTAL LIFE COST
(Cost of equipment + Cost of
installation and commissioning + Cost
of maintenance over 20 years of the
life of the elevator)

provided for each lift. This shall be
connected with rechargeable sealed
batteries that shall be recharged
automatically. In the event of a power
failure the device shall provide power
to the system and drive it to a nearby
floor where the door shall open and
the passengers allowed to exit.
In addition to the automatic
emergency landing device operating
on batteries, which will bring the lift
to the lower floor in case of power
failure, GMV lifts are equipped with
additional mechanical systems to
manually take the lift up by using a
pump lever, or take the lift down by
releasing the valve adding an
additional factor of safety in the event
that the batteries are drained

Code to ensure the defined safety
factor as outlined in the Code is
respected

PAGE 8
PISTON AND CYLINDER
GMV R&D team, using latest
technologies have developed pistons
with a reduced diameter of the
cylinder, which requires a lower
quantity of fluid, and decreases the
elevator elasticity.
A specially designed cylinder joint to
ensure maximum safety is equipped
with a collar for ease of installation.
This hydraulic elevator technology
which uses a piston, completely
eliminates the need of a
counterweight, greatly reducing the
carbon footprint on the environment
during the manufacturing and
transportation process making it a
truly Green technology.

RUPTURE VALVE
The rupture valve interrupts the
downward travel of the plunger in
case of an over speed situation of the
car.
The valve is activated when a
pressure variation between the point
of entry and the point of exit of the fluid
in the valve itself occurs. Therefore,
no electrical device is needed.
Because no overspeed governor and
associated ropes are necessary, the
carbon footprint in manufacturing and
transportation is reduced which
complements the Green Technology
factor.
PAGE 9
CAR BUFFERS
In compliance with the EN 81 code,
car buffers that are safety devices
which are required to be mounted at
the base of an elevator shaft shall be
provided. As with any safety device
elevator buffers have to meet with a
variety of specifications but probably
the most important of these is the
manner in which the buffers must
bring an impacting elevator car to rest.
Since hydraulic lifts do not have a
counterweight, counterweight buffers
are not required. This reduces the
carbon footprint associated with
manufacturing and transportation
making hydraulic lifts a Green
Product.

INTERCOM
Intercoms shall be supplied to
establish communication between a
passenger in the lift cabin and a
person outside in the lift lobby at the
ground floor. The lift cabin shall have
a hands-free intercom system in the
car operating panel which will sound
an alarm and establish a
communication with the hand set once
a passenger presses the alarm button
in the car operating panel
PAGE 10
ELECTRIC WIRING
In compliance with the EN 81 code,
electrical wiring shall be provided.
All necessary insulated wiring and
conduit of tubing, together with
necessary fittings, metal boxes,
troughs and ducts, will be provided
and installed, except as specified as
work by others. Travelling cables will
contain spare conductors and be of a
flat construction.
Wiring diagram indicating a simplified
conventional pictorial representation
of the electrical circuit which shows
the components of the circuit as
simplified shapes, and the power and
signal connections between the
devices shall be provided.

MODES OF OPERATION

Stand by: The elevator upon not receiving call from either hall button or car button,
will stop at the last served floor waiting for next call. If for a period of time, the elevator
is parked in the last served floor without any calls, will return to the main stop. Main
stop can be preset regardless of architecture lobby of the building according to
practical requirements for customization. If no registration of calls or operations after
preset timeout, the car will return to preset main stop and wait there. And the preset
main stop should be the floor with maximum passenger flow or the default lobby
floor. Since no OVF drives are present in hydraulic lifts, almost no power is in use
during standby mode, which is the reason hydraulic lifts have a higher factor of being
considered as Green technology.
Normal operation: Full Collective Operation All car and/or hall calls registered are
answered in the order in which the landings are reached. Direction of travel will be
established by the first car command / hall call registered. All calls on its way will
be served, irrespective of the time sequence in which the calls were registered.
The elevator will only travel; if calls are registered (demand exists).
PAGE 11
Car Commands: Upon stopping in response to a car call, the corresponding
call will be cancelled.
Hall Calls: Upon stopping in response to a hall call, the corresponding call
for that direction will be cancelled, while a call for the same floor but for the
opposite direction will remain in memory.
Reversal of Direction: When the car reaches the last registered call (car or
hall) for the established direction, it will reverse and proceed to answer calls
in the opposite direction, if any are present. If the last registered call (highest
or lowest call) is a hall call for the last established direction, the control waits
for registration of a car command, prior to establishing a new direction. If the
last registered call is both an UP and DN hall call, direction reversal takes
place in case of a car call.
Emergency: (Mainly two type: ARED operation & EFO operation):
ARED operation in emergency: The device would start in 3-10 seconds
after power failure happened to elevators. When the device is in emergency
rescue running status.
If the car is at the landing position, it will open the door to release the
passengers. If the car is not at the landing position under safe running
conditions, it will drive the car down to the nearby landing position to open
the door & release the passengers. When the device finishes the releasing
task, it will stop working and return to original standby status for future
emergency rescue task.
Emergency Fireman Operation: Upon recognition of fireman's service, a
car shall return non-stop to the designated return landing and park with the
doors fully open.
Attendant Operation: If required by the customer, the elevator can be
provided with an Attendant Key Switch. This is very useful when a patient in
the hospital needs to be moved using the lift. In the Attendant Operation
mode, the doors shall remain open till the patient is taken into the lift and a
car call is given and the Door Close button is pressed continuously till the lift
starts
