UREA

CH4N2O
INTRODUCTION

Urea (CH4N20) or carbamide is an organic

compound has two NH2 groups by a carboxyl Chemical formula CH4N20
(C=O) functional group Molar mass 60.06 g/mol

Urea has the heighest nitrogen content Appearance White solid

available in solid fertilier (46%) Density 1.32 g/cm^2

STRUCTURE Melting point 133 to 135 °C,

(271 to 275 °F ;
406 to 408 K)
Solubility 545 g/L (at 25 °C)
1.Evaporate a solution of ammonium cynate to dryness

NH4OCN NH2-CO-NH2
2. combination of NH3 and CO2 under pressure it forms ammonium carbonate

2NH3 +CO2 NH2 COONH4

NH2-CO2 NH4 NH2-CO-NH2 + H2O

*Ammonium carbonate under suitable conditions losses water to forms urea

TEST FOR PURITY
To detect purity in the urea, take 1gm fertilizer in test
tube and add 5ml distilled water to dissolve the material.
Add 5-6 drops of silver nitrate solution. The formation of
white precipitate indicate that material is pure. The non
formaiton of any precipitation indicates that the urea is
pure
The official process is based on the method
of richmond and hill this hydrolysis the
saccharin to the sodium sant of o-
sulphonyl benzoic acid ,without loss of
ammonia
MEDICINAL USES
It is widely used as a calorie free
substitute sugar or diabetics and in the
weight conscious
It is also called a sweetning agent in tooth
parts, mouth washes aerated drinks
